I’m firing on a strikeout prop with our first MLB pick tonight. I tried to fade the Braves on Friday against Sonny Gray, but we got rained out. He came out on Saturday and punched out 10 Atlanta hitters. The Reds will come to town to begin the week and send their All-Star ace, Hunter Greene, to the mound.

Greene has posted solid numbers in his third big league season. He has done much better keeping opposing hitters in the park but has lost some of his K/9 juice. Still, his 10.28 K/9 is among the league leaders. Greene’s biggest bugaboo has been walks, but he shouldn’t struggle with that tonight because the Braves have a 7.5 BB%–tied with the fifth-lowest in the league.

The Reds are last in the NL Central standings but only four games back in the crazy NL wild-card race. How they perform this next week will likely decide if they buy or sell at next week’s trade deadline.

Greene is tied with Dylan Cease for the best Stuff+ figure in the league at 124. He is in the 83rd percentile in WHIFF% and 82nd in K%. He had two strong starts before the break, striking out 7 against the Tigers and 10 against the Rockies.

Atlanta will march out a veteran lineup but has struggled to hit for average since losing Acuna Jr. They have the fourth-worst batting average in the league (.230) since Acuna Jr. went down. That’s ahead of only the Mariners (.211), White Sox (.225), and the Angels (.226). The Braves are below the league average in K % at seventh but have the fifth-highest K% since losing Acuna Jr.

The 28-year-old right-hander is having the best season of his career. Houck is 8-6 with a 2.54 ERA (4th best in MLB) and a 1.03 WHIP. He has a 109 Stuff+ and a 107 Pitching+, ranking among the best in the bigs. Houck is even in contention in AL Cy Young odds.
