2 Best MLB Player Props 8/1/24
1. Cardinals Sonny Gray SP Over 6+ Strikeouts (-164)
I’m firing on a strikeout prop with our first MLB pick tonight. The Cardinals continue to climb quietly in the NL Wild Card race and will send 34-year-old righty Sonny Gray to the bump in their series opener at Wrigley Field.
Gray is in his 12th big league season and has greatly respected our money to this point in 2024. He finished as the runner-up for AL Cy Young in 2023 and, in his first year in St. Louis, is off to a terrific start in 2024. He has spent most of the season in the top 10 in NL Cy Young odds and was one of the biggest All-Star snubs. However, he has struggled a bit over the last month.

Gray has thrown the ball exceptionally well, posting a 10-6 record with a 3.79 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Dating back to the start of 2023, he has a 105 Pitching+ (tied for 4th best in MLB) and a 105 Stuff+ (9th best in MLB). Gray has been the consistent arm all clubs desire in the front end of their starting rotations. He is in the 72nd percentile in Whiff % and 92nd in K %. Gray has exceeded five strikeouts in 16 of his 19 starts!
He’s posted career-high marks in xERA and K-BB% with St. Louis. Since his disastrous season with the Yankees in 2018, he has finished above the league average in K/BB ratio. He will face a Cubs lineup with the sixth-lowest batting average over the last two weeks. The Cubbies have struck out the tenth-most, and Gray finished with 6 Ks on July 12 and 8 Ks on May 26 against them.

Chicago is tenth in both Whiff and K % this season. He has made five starts against the Cubs since 2020 and has recorded 8, 8, 9, 8, and 6 strikeouts. I’m riding Gray with confidence at BetUS Sportsbook.
Bet On Gray SP Over 6+ Strikeouts (-164)
2. Guardians SP Ben Lively Over 6+ Hits Allowed (-115)
The Cleveland Guardians and Baltimore Orioles will begin a massive four-game set tonight at Progressive Field. The Orioles (65-44) and Guardians (65-42) seek to establish dominance atop the American League in this series.
Cleveland’s pitching staff has been excellent this season, but I expect the dangerous Baltimore lineup to produce tonight against veteran right-hander Ben Lively. The 32-year-old Lively has bounced around in his career and has surprised in his first season with Cleveland. He is coming off a terrific outing against the formidable Phillies lineup, but they are in a terrible slump right now.

Entering this season, Lively had a career ERA of 5.05 and a 1.36 WHIP. He was brought in to likely come out of the bullpen, but the Guardians have utilized him as a starter, and things have worked out well to this point. However, I expect some regression for the right-hander. Lively is in the bottom 5 percentile in fastball velocity and exit velocity and 18th in Chase %! He allowed 6 hits in four of his previous six outings.
The Orioles are tied with the fifth-highest batting average (.255) and are hitting (.274) since the All-Star break. Lively has been lucky and has struggled to get out right-handed hitters, allowing them to hit (.271) against him compared to lefties at just (.192). One problem I see us encountering is the Guardians bullpen is well-rested following a rare off day on Wednesday, so Lively could have a short leash. Still, I’m placing a bet online on Baltimore’s bats against the veteran journeyman tonight.
Bet On Lively Over 6+ Hits Allowed (-115)
