Bet the Over for MLB Game Picks in Cardinals vs Padres

The St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres clash for the first time this season in the series opener on Monday. St. Louis got its season off to a slow start, dropping its first series with the Dodgers, despite nearly splitting the set after a close final game, while the Padres bounced back from a couple of rough outings with the Giants to win their final game and even the series. The Cardinals and Padres look to start the week on a high note, while the MLB odds list the Cardinals at -101 on the road.

Cardinals vs Padres Over/Under Pick: Over 8½ Runs

Neither teams’ pitching has been particularly impressive to start the season, and both offenses should find enough success to hit the over yet again in this matchup.

Though the Padres’ offense finished strong in their final game against San Francisco, scoring 13 runs, a big performance was necessary, as they allowed an average of 6.3 runs in the four-game series. San Diego’s bullpen struggled, giving up 15 of the 25 total runs allowed in the series to the Giants while having a 6.33 ERA.

However, with Matt Waldron starting for San Diego, the Cardinals will not only have a solid opportunity to score against its bullpen, but against him as well. Waldron, in his second season, finished 2023 with a 4.35 ERA, giving up 20 earned runs and nine homers.

Though the Cardinals should find more scoring after averaging 3.5 runs in their series with the Dodgers, they are also due to give up a few. St. Louis’ bullpen didn’t do it any favors against Los Angeles either, recording a 6.09 ERA while allowing 23 runs in the series. With the Padres already hitting seven homers in their last series with San Francisco and starter Kyle Gibson struggling at times last season with a 4.73 ERA, there should be plenty of offense in this opener.
