AL East Rivals Collide
The Toronto Blue Jays are on a tear right and have won 12 of their last 15 contests. On Tuesday, they’ll start the new week and new month when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays in a matchup of American League East rivals.
The Jays are favored on the MLB odds as they send out Kevin Gausman to the mound, but he has been hit or miss for them of late. After posting an ERA of 5.09 in July, is he worth a bet online?
Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this Tuesday’s showdown.
Blue Jays: Bats Cooking
The Toronto Blue Jays have won seven of their nine second-half games and a big reason for it has been their offense. They’ve scored at least four runs in each of those wins, averaging 6.0 per outing, which doesn’t include their 28-run explosion in Boston.
Matt Chapman is leading the way with four home runs in the last week. Vladdy Guerrero Jr. is batting .333 over his last seven days with a home run, three RBIs and three walks while Bo Bichette is at .300. This lineup is hard to contain right now.
Gausman struggled in the month of July and other than that 28-5 win over the Boston Red Sox, the Jays have dropped seven of his last eight starts.
Home runs have been a big issue for Gausman who’s allowed four in his last three starts. He allowed just two in his first 16 starts.
If you’re planning on betting this in the sportsbook, just know that Gausman has not been at his best of late.
Rays Fading Fast
The Tampa Bay Rays are third in the American League East – three games behind the second-place Jays – but they’re fading quickly. They’ve lost seven of nine and can’t seem to find their way back.
The good news is they can close the gap on Toronto with a sweep of this two-game series.
The challenge for the Rays is they’ll probably need help at the trade deadline but won’t get it. This team is always frugal but an acquisition of some kind could give them a spark.
On Tuesday, they’ll rely on Drew Rasmussen, who is 6-3 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. The Rays have won four of his last five outings.
He’s faced Toronto twice this year, posting a 1.79 ERA and holding them to a .229 batting average. He hasn’t lasted deep into games, though, pitching a combined 10.1 innings.
Blue Jays vs Rays Head-to-Head
The Rays and Jays have squared off eight times and the Rays have had the upper hand. They’re 5-3 in the matchups and have won three straight.

Blue Jays vs Rays Prediction
It’s tough to bet the Rays in this spot because they’re playing poorly and the Jays are on fire right now. The Rays have the edge in pitching but their bats are ice cold. This team has scored just 23 runs in their last nine games.
Take the Jays in this one.
