The Toronto Blue Jays travel to face the New York Mets for a three-game weekend series that starts Friday. Both teams had decent MLB playoff odds at the start of the season due to the talented rosters, but that has trailed off a little since then.

There have been a lot of ups and downs for the Mets this season. The lineup has not been as productive as last season, while the pitching has been inconsistent. The previous five series encapsulate that, having two sweeps, beating the team with the best record in baseball while also losing two series to middle-of-the-pack teams.
In New York’s last series, they swept a division rival, the Philadelphia Phillies, at home. Maybe that could finally get this team playing consistently for sportsbooks.

Chris Bassitt (5-4, 3.80 ERA) vs Justin Verlander (2-2, 4.80)
Chris Bassitt will take the mound for the Blue Jays, having spent last season with the Mets. He spent one good season with New York but was not re-signed. Bassitt’s last start was his worst in May, going four innings, allowing seven runs. However, that did not affect his month’s ERA of 2.43, having three shutout appearances, with one being a complete game.
After winning his third AL Cy Young award, Justin Verlander moved to the National League, joining the Mets this offseason. He has had a slow start dealing with injuries, which caused some inconsistencies. He had his second outing of five innings and six runs allowed in his last start. But he has three appearances of two or fewer runs, balancing out his rough starts.
