Braves-Dodgers: Stats Favor Over Bet

The Atlanta Braves (+140) and Los Angeles Dodgers (+180) are the teams with the best MLB odds to win the National League. They will play the second of a four-game series on Friday, a possible preview of what could happen in October.

The Braves won the first game 8-7, with their stars coming out to play. The two leaders in the NL MVP race, Ronald Acuna Jr. (-140) and Mookie Betts (Ev), combined for three homers and eight runs batted in. On top of that, Acuna became the first player ever to hit 30 home runs and steal 60 bases, with a grand slam in the second inning.

Starting Pitching

Max Fried (5-1, 2.85 ERA) vs Julio Urias (11-7, 4.41)

In a high-profile matchup, you expect elite starting pitchers on the mound. That is what MLB betting will get when the Braves’ Max Fried faces the Dodgers Julio Urias. However, both have struggled in recent appearances.

Fried’s season has been riddled with injuries, and after missing three months, he returned to the mound in August. Since then, it is clear Fried is still trying to get back in the swing of things, with a 3.58 ERA. He also has struggled to keep opponents off the bases, allowing a .319 batting average over his last four starts.

This season has also been complicated for Urias. Most of his starts have been solid, which is what you would expect from the Dodgers ace. However, every once in a while, he has a terrible game, raising his ERA. For example, in the first four starts of August, Urias was dominant, allowing four runs through 25 innings. But then, in his last start, he allowed six runs in six innings, giving up three homers.

Offense Will Run Game

Headed into this game, the Braves have the best offense in the league, with the Dodgers coming in second. The Braves are leading the league in runs, homers, and batting average, pretty much every important offensive statistic. In runs and homers, they are followed by the Dodgers.

On top of that, both teams have the star power to lead their offense. The NL MVP seems to be a race between Acuna and Betts. Even the next two best options in MLB lines are from these two teams, with Freddie Freeman’s odds set at +2500 and then Matt Olson even further away at +10000. Each player is a big reason why they are favored to win the NL.

More recently, the Dodgers lineup has been headlined by Max Muncy, who has been dominating. He has a batting average of .393 in the last seven games, hitting three homers with 13 runs batted in. Acuna is the Braves’ top hitter, with a .375 batting average, two homers, and nine runs batted in over the last seven games.

Why Bet the Over?

All this offense has made both teams reliable options to hit the over. The Dodgers especially stand out, having hit the over in 76 of 133 games. That is the highest percentage of any team in baseball. The Braves are not entirely on that level, ranked third, with 71 overs out of the same number of games. Both team’s stats favor the over, making it an excellent option for MLB picks.

On top of that, with both teams’ lineups able to put up runs, they are facing pitchers that have given opponents chances recently. Freid has struggled to keep opponent batting averages down since returning from the Injured List, while Urias is coming off a bad outing.

All these factors point to this game hitting the over, with the first game being the most prominent example. This series features some of the best hitters this sport has to offer.
