Picks, Prediction for Braves vs Athletics on Tuesday, May 30
The Atlanta Braves started this series on the losing end against potentially the worst team in baseball history, the Oakland Athletics. Oakland lost 11 straight games before Monday’s surprise upset. The Braves still lead the National League East by four games, but with a 4-6 record in their last 10 games, they are losing ground to the Miami Marlins.
The MLB odds for Game 2 heavily favor the Braves on the moneyline.

Braves Cover 60% of Road Games
The Atlanta Braves enter Game 2 of this series with several advantages. Not least of all, their opponents are the worst team in baseball by a mile.
Atlanta struggles to cover MLB spreads at home but wins against the spread (ATS) more than 60% of the time on the road.
A’s on Pace for Historic Season
The Oakland Athletics are set to make history, but their potential record is not one any team wants. The A’s are on pace to lose more than 120 games and finish with the worst run differential in modern baseball.
The A’s are 1-11 in their previous 12 games, thanks to an unlikely win on Monday in Game 1 of this series.
Regarding the MLB lines, Oakland has the third worst ATS record in the MLB at 21-35 and an ROI of -26.72%.
Starting Pitchers
Bryce Elder (3-0, 2.01 ERA) vs JP Sears (0-3, 4.70)
Tuesday’s pitcher’s duel will be anything but competitive, with Bryce Elder squaring off against JP Sears.
While Elder has yet to lose a decision in 10 starts, Sears is winless in his first 10 appearances. The A’s are 0-6 in Sears’ previous six starts and 2-8 on the season. His ERA is dropping slowly during May, but with zero run support, it doesn’t matter how low Sears’ ERA falls.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 6-1 in Elder’s previous seven starts. The righty has a microscopic 1.84 ERA in five starts this month, with one home run allowed in his last 29.1 innings.

The A’s upset Atlanta Monday but are a tough MLB bet to make with this mismatch on the mound.
Braves vs Athletics Head-to Head
These two teams are hardly comparable. The Braves have the second-highest winning percentage (.593) in the National League while the A’s may break the all-time MLB for losses in a season.
Don’t let Monday’s ATS win by Oakland fool you into thinking the A’s aren’t outmanned at every position.
The Braves have only lost twice since 2007 against the A’s, and I don’t expect a repeat performance from Oakland in this spot.

Braves vs Athletics Betting Lines
Over/Under Pick
The over is 4-0 in the last four games between these two teams, including Monday’s 7-2 final. I expect Sears to get lit up in Game 2 and like the over to hit for the second straight night.
Pick: Over 8½ (-115)
Moneyline Pick
Despite Monday’s upset loss, the Braves are the obvious choice to win this game outright. However, they don’t present much in terms of MLB betting value at -230.
Pick: Braves -230
Spread Pick (Optional)
My best bet for the Braves on Tuesday is for Atlatna to dominate Game 2 and cover the alternate spread of -2½. The odds on the Braves to cover -1½ aren’t juicy enough, and this matchup screams revenge blowout in favor of Atlanta.
Pick: Braves -2½ (-105)
