Surging Atlanta Visits Struggling Toronto

The Atlanta Braves head North of the border on Friday to kick off a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The two teams from the East are heading in different directions, with the Braves growing their lead in the National League East while the Blue Jays are in danger of falling into last place in the American League East.

The MLB lines list the Braves as moneyline favorites with odds of -105 on the runline to cover 1½ runs.

Braves Most Profitable Road Team in MLB

The Atlanta Braves have a lot going for them in this game. They are on a hot streak, have a better starter on the mound, and have dominated the road all season. Because of their skills away from home, Atlanta is the most profitable team against the MLB spreads on the road at 13-5. With a return on investment of 47.44%, betters have nearly doubled their investment when wagering Atlatna’s road games.

Starter Spencer Strider (4-0, 2.70) is a big part of the Braves’ success on the road in three starts away from Truist Park. The young righty is 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 17 innings on the road.

Strider has never pitched against the Blue Jays.

While Strider is the better pitcher in this game, the Braves’ offense has been the star of their season. They enter Friday with a .256 combined batting average and 4.81 runs per game. The lineup also has great numbers against the Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt.

Blue Jays on 3-7 Slide

The Toronto Blue Jays have the worst record in their last 10 games among any team in the AL East. As a result, Toronto is a mere half-game out of last place where the New York Yankees currently sit. Every team in the division is above .500, but the worst team in the best division is still not somewhere the Jays want to be.

Bassitt (4-2, 4.28) may be coming off a gem against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but his numbers against the Braves lineup are impossible to ignore. In 52 at-bats against Bassitt, the current Braves lineup has a .365 batting average, .979 OPS and five extra-base hits.

Austin Riley (3-for-7) and Eddie Rosario (3-for-7) have the best numbers against Bassitt, and each has an OPS over 1.000 against the righty.

Bassitt got knocked around by the Braves in 2022 with a 4.60 ERA in three starts. He allowed 14 hits and eight earned runs in 15⅔ innings with 16 strikeouts, six walks, and three home runs.

I took the L last time I made an MLB bet against Bassitt, but it was against the Pirates. The Braves are a different beast and sport one of the best MLB betting records in the league.

The Blue Jays and Braves haven’t played since 2021, when the Birds dominated two separate three-game series sweeps. Toronto also finished 6-0 against the spread.

Braves vs Blue Best Bets

The Braves highlight my MLB picks for Friday to cover in an apparent mismatch. Bassitt had an excellent game last week, but I don’t expect similar results against the Braves’ powerhouse offense. Plus, Atlanta has dominated the MLB odds when playing on the road.

The Atlanta Braves are listed at -145 in our Vegas MLB lines. If you wager $100 on the Braves, you can win $69. The Toronto Blue Jays are +130, offering a chance to win $130 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Braves a 59.18% chance to win, with the Blue Jays at 43.48%.
