Young Players Get a Chance to Shine for Marlins
Two teams who are headed to completely different places are getting together for a three-game series. The visiting Braves are coming off a sweep of a New York Mets team that led the National League East for most of the season. Now the Braves hold a two-game advantage in the division with a magic number of one to clinch.
The Marlins are playing out the season with the knowledge that manager Don Mattingly will not be returning. Other changes figure to be coming following another season with no postseason appearance.
The Marlins batting average of .219 in the second half of the season is the worst in the National League while the Braves are fifth in the majors in batting average as well as being second in both home runs and runs scored during that time.
According to the MLB playoff odds, the Braves (+550) trail only the Los Angeles Dodgers (+275) among National League teams in the odds to win the World Series.

Olson Starting to Heat Up for the Braves
There have been some bumpy patches during Matt Olson’s first season in Atlanta. There was a time when he was listed by the MLB predictions as a candidate for the MVP award but he has had his issues in the second half of the season. He seems to be trending in the right direction these days.
Over his last six games, Olson is 9-for-18 with five home runs, seven runs scored and nine RBIs. He has also walked five times during that stretch. He has needed to deliver because Dansby Swanson, Ronald Acuna Jr, Michael Harris and Travis d’Arnaud are all hitting less than .200 during that stretch.
Olson homered in each of the three games in the series against the Mets as he topped the 100 RBI mark on the season. His home run on Sunday was a key insurance run as the Braves rallied from two runs down to complete the sweep.

The Las Vegas odds total has gone over in six of Atlanta’s last nine games.
De La Cruz Swinging a Hot Ball for Miami
One advantage of being out of playoff contention is that a team can get a look at the players who will potentially have a role in the rebuilding process.
Perhaps no player on the Marlins has taken advantage of his opportunities in the second half of the season more than first baseman Bryan De La Cruz.
De La Cruz was batting .217 on Aug. 10 with 17 extra-base hits. Since returning to action in the beginning of September, De La Cruz is hitting .370 with 13 runs scored, eight doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs. The Marlins are 5-2 when he has at least two hits during that stretch. De La Cruz has had his issues against the Braves with one hit in 22 at-bats to go with 10 strikeouts in eight games against Atlanta in 2022.
The MLB betting lines total has gone under in five of Miami’s last seven games in October.
Braves vs Marlins Head-to-Head
Atlanta has won the last eight games against Miami with only two decided by one run.
The last time the teams met in Miami, Atlanta completed a three-game sweep and outscored the Marlins 14-5.
Miami has been held to two runs or fewer in each of the last six meetings. After Miami won two of the first three games against Atlanta in 2022, the Braves had taken 11 of the last 13.
Jorge Soler and Jesus Aguilar lead Miami with three home runs each against Atlanta. However, Aguilar is now a member of the Baltimore Orioles. Seven Atlanta players have at least two home runs against the Marlins with Austin Riley leading the way with six as the Braves have hit 27 home runs in 16 games against Miami this season.

Braves vs Marlins Prediction
Miami will be without first baseman Garrett Cooper as he is on the injured list, leaving the offensive-challenged Marlins without one of its better hitters.
Atlanta is slated to start Bryce Elder and he has allowed a total of two runs over his last four starts with the Braves winning three of those games. Two of those outings came against Miami as he allowed five hits and one run with 16 strikeouts in 13 innings.
Jesus Luzardo will get the ball for Miami. He has a 3.72 ERA in his last five starts and has surrendered a home run in each of them. In his last start against the Braves, he allowed seven hits and four runs in five innings of a 5-2 loss.
Something to consider for those who bet online: Miami is 6-12 in its last 18 home games and 1-9 in the last 10 when playing host to Atlanta. With the way Elder has been pitching and what is on the line for the Braves, look for Atlanta to keep rolling against Miami.
