San Diego Tries To Snap Losing Streak
The Atlanta Braves try to extend their two-game winning streak when they face the host San Diego Padres in the finale of a four-game weekend series on Sunday Night Baseball. Atlanta has won the last two games in the series by identical 5-2 scores to climb back to .500 on the season. San Diego is also sitting at .500 after two straight setbacks and is struggling to keep up in the loaded NL West. Both teams have had their moments in this series, so check out our in-depth preview of the finale before you decide how you want to make a bet online.
Let’s check the latest MLB Picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB Odds for Braves vs Padres. We’ve plenty of MLB Predictions.
Braves Get Solid Outing from Anderson
The Atlanta Braves are still waiting to get Ronald Acuna Jr. back from a knee injury, but as long as the team’s pitching keeps going like it has the past two games, it should be fine. Saturday saw Ian Anderson have a solid game, striking out seven and allowing just one run and two hits over 5⅔ innings of work.
“That was very, very encouraging to see – the entire outing,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said after Saturday’s win. “(Anderson) looked like himself. He had good tempo, the ball was coming out of his hand really good. The change was good. That was just so good to see.”
Rookie right-hander Bryce Elder will get the start for the series finale. The 22-year-old is 1-0 after going 5⅔ innings against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits, including a pair of home runs, while striking out four and walking none.
Second baseman Ozzie Albies has been on a tear, hitting a home run in each of the first three games of this series. Albies is batting .237 with two doubles, four home runs, eight RBIs and six runs scored this season.
All Or Nothing For Padres At The Plate
The San Diego Padres had two home runs in Saturday’s loss. Unfortunately, those two solo home runs equaled the team’s total output on the scoreboard and accounted for half of the team’s hit total.
The Padres are batting .237 as a team and are scoring 4.3 runs per game entering Sunday, but it’s been all at once, with games of 10 or more runs twice and just seven total runs in the four losses in their last five games.
First baseman Eric Hosmer has been the most consistent at the plate, batting .394 with five doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Third baseman Manny Machado has also started well, batting .350 with four doubles, a home run, six RBIs and eight runs scored.
Veteran right-hander Yu Darvish will get the ball for Sunday night’s contest. Darvish had an ugly outing in his last start, lasting just 1⅔ innings against the San Francisco Giants, allowing nine runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking two.
Braves vs Padres Head-to-Head
The San Diego Padres have had their troubles against the Atlanta Braves over the last few seasons, failing to win the season series since 2015. Atlanta took four of six meetings a year ago, including a three-game sweep of the series at Petco Park.
In fact, San Diego’s win in the opener of this series was its first victory over the Braves at home since the 2018 season, as Atlanta had swept its games in California in both the 2019 and 2021 campaigns (the two teams didn’t play in 2020). The MLB lines are giving the Padres the edge in the series finale, favoring them to break even at home.

Braves vs Padres Prediction
Darvish had an awful time on the mound in his last outing, but he should be able to rise to the occasion for the San Diego Padres on Sunday Night Baseball. The Atlanta Braves haven’t shown a lot of consistency this season, so they’re due for a rough outing in this one.
When making your MLB picks, take San Diego to win at home.
