Phillies Aim to Follow Braves into Playoffs
The Atlanta Braves made sure to take their lead in the Wild Card race and capitalize on it. They have officially clinched a spot in the playoffs in the National League even though they’ve lost their last two games.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies are 10½ games behind the Braves in the standings but are also one-half game behind the second-place San Diego Padres in that Wild Card race.
Philly got the better of Atlanta on Thursday night, beating them in a low-scoring 1-0 outing. Can they repeat that performance or will the Braves rebound?
Braves Rolling With Odorizzi
The Atlanta Braves had been riding a five-game winning streak but have since dropped two in a row. Their offense has disappeared as they were shut out on Thursday and have scored just two runs in their last two.
Atlanta is handing the ball to Jake Odorizzi, who is 5-5 with a mediocre 4.04 ERA. He’ll have to do better than that unless the Braves offense wakes up.
He started the year with the Houston Astros but got flipped to the Braves at the trade deadline. Odorizzi pitched against the Phillies in his last appearance a week ago.
He went 4.2 innings and allowed just two hits and one run in a 4-3 Atlanta victory.
Phillies Starting Nola
The Philadelphia Phillies are going to be starting Aaron Nola on the mound to try and close the standings gap against the Braves. Nola is an ace, which is why the Phillies are favored on the MLB odds.
Nola is 9-12 an ERA of 3.38, the 28th-best in the league. Not to mention that he’s recorded the fifth-most strikeouts in the league at 210.
Nola had a decent game against the Braves during his last appearance. He pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits and four runs during a 4-3 defeat.
On the year, he’s 2-2 against the Braves, holding them to a .234 batting average. Going deeper into the numbers, though, you’d notice that he’s allowed at least four earned runs in three of the four outings.
Careful if you’re laying the juice here if you bet online.

Braves vs Phillies Prediction
The Phillies are currently listed as the favorites in the sportsbook. However, they are going to have a tough time trying to hold down the Braves for a second straight game.
Atlanta is one of the better batting teams in the MLB. The Braves fell to 6-4 in their last 10 after getting shut out on Thursday.
The Braves are dogs here but they’ve done well enough versus Nola to take a flier here.
