Braves Looking at Better Road Results

The Atlanta Braves have struggled when hitting the road this season, coming into this series with a 10-13 record outside of Georgia. Atlanta lost two of the three games against the host Arizona Diamondbacks, and has won just one road series this season.

Right-hander Ian Anderson will try to get the Braves off to a good start, taking the mound in Thursday’s contest. Anderson is 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA in nine starts this season, striking out 36 and walking 23 in 47⅔ innings. His last two starts have seen him allow four earned runs in each. He’s dropped his last two decisions.

Third baseman Austin Riley has been hot, hitting his third home run in four games Wednesday against the D’backs. He is batting .259 with 11 doubles, 13 home runs (tied for fourth in majors), 28 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Outfielder Marcell Ozuna has also been a factor, 6-for-16 over his last four games, though striking out at least once in five straight games. Ozuna is batting .235 with six doubles, 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Rodgers’ Blast Powered Rockies To Wild Win

The Colorado Rockies had a long Wednesday afternoon into evening. They surrendered 14 runs in the opener of a doubleheader, then another dozen in the nightcap. However, Brendan Rodgers made sure the team wasn’t going to to lose both. It was his third home run of the second game, a bottom-of-the-10th shot that give Colorado a 13-12 victory.

“I don’t think I’ve hit three homers ever in my life, not even in Little League, travel ball, minor leagues. This is the first time,” Rodgers said after Wednesday’s win. “I’m definitely going to remember this forever.”

Rodgers has just five home runs on the season after his power display, but the Rockies would love to see him hit a few more. Rodgers is batting .266 with nine doubles, 23 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

First baseman C.J. Cron was 1-for-6 with three strikeouts in the second game. Cron is leading the Rockies with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs while also hitting .306  He has added 10 doubles, a triple and 30 runs scored.

Colorado is hoping left-hander Austin Gomber can slow down the Braves’ offense after Wednesday’s ugly outings by the team’s pitching staff. Gomber is 2-5 with a 5.51 ERA in nine starts, striking out 35 in 47⅓ innings. Gomber had a very rough outing in his last start, lasting just 1⅓ innings against the Washington Nationals. He surrendered eight runs on seven hits and three walks.

Braves vs Rockies Head-to-Head

The Colorado Rockies have had the number of the Atlanta Braves in recent seasons, winning or tying each season since 2015. Colorado had a 4-2 record against Atlanta in 2021, the two teams splitting fou games at Coors Field.

The Braves have won at least twice in Denver in each of their last four trips there. Glancing the MLB lines in Thursday’s series opener see that trend expected to continue, with the Braves favored to open with a win.

Braves vs Rockies Prediction

The Colorado Rockies just gave up 26 runs in one day, so it stands to reason that their pitching staff is going to be somewhat thin for this game. Look for the Atlanta Braves to take advantage of that, especially against Gomber, with problems getting batters out in his last start.

When MLB betting, take Atlanta to win on the road.
