Braves vs Yankees: MLB Series Betting Preview Aug. 11-12

Braves’ Bats Impressive, Starting Pitching Abysmal

The Atlanta Braves are coming off of a frustrating four-game split with the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta is ranked in the top 10 in batting average, hits, and home runs. They lead MLB in RBIs and runs scored. Yet the Braves still find themselves in 2nd place in the NL East and are struggling to win games consistently.

Current NL Pennant betting odds have the Braves (+400), behind only the Dodgers (+130) in the Moneyline rankings. Atlanta is projected high in up-to-date World Series betting odds   as well, coming in at +1000. If these odds are to hold water, the Braves must address their starting pitching woes right now.

Regarding pitching statistics, Atlanta sits in the middle of the pack. With aces Feliz Hernandez and Cole Hamels unavailable from the get-go, the Braves began the season in a tough spot. Then SP Mike Soroka tore his Achilles. SP Max Fried can’t start every game, and the bullpen can only be stretched so thin. Atlanta’s supposed starters are being demoted to Gwinnett more quickly than Trump bounced contestants from “The Apprentice.”

Yankees Happy To Be Home, Hope To Extend AL East Lead

The Yankees started the season as favorites to win it all. As of this writing, the Bronx Bombers (+375) still find themselves with the best odds to win the World Series. There are so many attractive MLB betting lines and cool props to bet on in this shortened baseball season. If you haven’t done so already, check out our n and jump in!

The Yankees are coming off a disappointing 2-5 road trip, and are happy to be back home in the Bronx. New York begins a nine-game homestand with two games against the Braves. The Bombers are undefeated (4-0) at Yankee Stadium this season, and their lethal lineup looks to feast on shaky pitching.

Murderer’s Row Take #2 will be without star DH Giancarlo Stanton, who is on the IL with a hamstring injury. OF Mike Tauchman is expected to take Stanton’s place. Tauchman is hitting .310 in 29 ABs this season and has an opportunity to get in a rhythm now. The Yankees are ranked in the top-9 in BA, HRs, RBIs, and runs while ranking 2nd with a .789 OPS%.

Opponents are hitting just .218 against the Yankees, and New York’s hurlers will need to be sharp against a dangerous Atlanta Braves lineup. Let’s check out the probable starters for the two-game set that begins Aug. 11 at Yankee Stadium.

Probable Starters Aug. 11

RHP Touki Toussaint

Atlanta SP Touki Toussaint had his career-best outing in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays. Toussaint struck out nine while scattering four hits and three runs over 6.2 innings. He hasn’t factored in a decision yet this season, but at least Toussaint is trending in the right direction. Toussaint got rocked by the Rays in his first start of the year, so his ERA is cringeworthy 6.08.

LHP Jordan Montgomery

Yankees’ SP Jordan Montgomery hasn’t demonstrated consistency yet in 2020. Montgomery pitched very well against the Boston Red Sox on July 31, holding them to one run over 5.2 innings. He earned the victory, then got beat up by the Philadelphia Phillies his next time out. Montgomery looks to rebound in Yankee Stadium with all the loyal hometown cardboard cutouts cheering him on in silent support.

Braves vs Yankees Probable Starters Aug. 12

TBD; Likely Huascar Ynoa

Braves’ RP Huascar Ynoa has been converted to a starter and has a 3.86 ERA in limited action.

RHP Masahiro Tanaka

The Yankees are counting on solid production from Masahiro Tanaka this season, and he’s recovering well from his concussion. Tanaka threw five impressive innings of one-hit ball vs the talented Tampa Bay Rays lineup, striking out five. He should be ready to throw deeper into the game against the Braves.
