Brewers Struggling Away from Home
Thursday night’s loss in the series opener continued a trend of rough play for the Milwaukee Brewers away from home, as they fell to 3-10 in their last 13 games on the road. Milwaukee is 34-35 away from American Family Field this season, compared to a 35-26 mark at home.
Left-hander Eric Lauer will be on the mound for his 25th start of the season on Friday. Lauer is 10-5 with a 3.58 ERA, with 129 strikeouts in 135.2 innings. He took a win in his last outing, going five innings against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday and allowing four runs on six hits, including one home run while striking out four. Lauer has struggled with the long ball, surrendering 15 of his 25 home runs allowed on the road.
The Milwaukee offense was silenced in the series opener, managing just four hits, all singles. Third baseman Jace Peterson accounted for two of those four hits and is batting .261 with 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 30 RBIs, and 35 runs scored in 86 games this season.

Dbacks Trying to Finish With a Flourish
After losing 110 games a season ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks are feeling very good about their current run, which has seen them go 22-16 since the All-Star break. There’s likely not enough season left to make a serious run at one of the National League Wild Card spots, but the Diamondbacks are still playing hard in an effort to build some good feeling going into 2023.
“If we play the way we’re playing right now, we can be a good team,” Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly said after Thursday’s win over the Milwaukee Brewers. “I think if we finish the year this last month and kind of bear down and play the way that we’re playing, it’ll leave a good taste in everybody’s mouth coming back for next year and moving forward.”

Arizona will have right-hander Zach Davies on the mound for Friday’s contest. Davies is 2-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 21 starts, striking out 80 in 108⅓ innings. He’s been solid in his last three starts, allowing a total of four earned runs over 16⅓ innings, but he hasn’t recorded a decision in his last seven starts.
