Brewers Desperate for Wins in Playoff Drive
The Arizona Diamondbacks try to make it two straight wins against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers when the two teams continue their weekend series on Friday night. Arizona took the series opener on Thursday night and is in third place in the NL West standings, 10 games behind second-place San Diego Padres. Milwaukee has lost two of three and is in second place in the NL Central, 6½ games behind first-place St. Louis Cardinals, sitting three games behind the Padres for the final Wild Card spot in the National League. Both teams are playing well, so this should be another good game. Check out our in-depth preview of this contest to help you with online betting.
Brewers Struggling Away from Home
Thursday night’s loss in the series opener continued a trend of rough play for the Milwaukee Brewers away from home, as they fell to 3-10 in their last 13 games on the road. Milwaukee is 34-35 away from American Family Field this season, compared to a 35-26 mark at home.
Left-hander Eric Lauer will be on the mound for his 25th start of the season on Friday. Lauer is 10-5 with a 3.58 ERA, with 129 strikeouts in 135.2 innings. He took a win in his last outing, going five innings against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday and allowing four runs on six hits, including one home run while striking out four. Lauer has struggled with the long ball, surrendering 15 of his 25 home runs allowed on the road.
The Milwaukee offense was silenced in the series opener, managing just four hits, all singles. Third baseman Jace Peterson accounted for two of those four hits and is batting .261 with 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 30 RBIs, and 35 runs scored in 86 games this season.
Shortstop Willy Adames was 1-for-4 with a strikeout on Thursday. Adames is batting .230 with 21 doubles, 26 home runs, 77 RBIs, and 67 runs scored in 2022.
Dbacks Trying to Finish With a Flourish
After losing 110 games a season ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks are feeling very good about their current run, which has seen them go 22-16 since the All-Star break. There’s likely not enough season left to make a serious run at one of the National League Wild Card spots, but the Diamondbacks are still playing hard in an effort to build some good feeling going into 2023.
“If we play the way we’re playing right now, we can be a good team,” Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly said after Thursday’s win over the Milwaukee Brewers. “I think if we finish the year this last month and kind of bear down and play the way that we’re playing, it’ll leave a good taste in everybody’s mouth coming back for next year and moving forward.”
First baseman Christian Walker is a good reason for the growing optimism, as he hit his 31st home run of the season on Thursday night. Walker is batting .236 with 19 doubles, a triple, 75 RBIs, and 69 runs scored.
Third baseman Josh Rojas was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs in Thursday’s win. Rojas is batting .278 with 21 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 44 RBIs, and 54 runs scored.
Arizona will have right-hander Zach Davies on the mound for Friday’s contest. Davies is 2-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 21 starts, striking out 80 in 108⅓ innings. He’s been solid in his last three starts, allowing a total of four earned runs over 16⅓ innings, but he hasn’t recorded a decision in his last seven starts.
Brewers vs Dbacks Head-To-Head
The Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to take the season series from the Milwaukee Brewers for the first time since the 2017 campaign. Arizona has gone just 4-16 against Milwaukee over the last three seasons they’ve played each other (they didn’t meet in 2020).
The Brewers have had success playing at Chase Field in their last three trips to the venue, going 7-3. The Brewers are slight favorites when looking at the MLB lines to even this series with a win on Friday night.

Brewers vs Dbacks Prediction
The Milwaukee Brewers are struggling on the road lately, but having Burnes on the mound will help. He should keep the Arizona Diamondbacks in check and help the Brewers come away with a series-tying victory.
