Plummeting Milwaukee Turns to Ace Burnes
Brewers Mired in 2-11 Funk
The Milwaukee Brewers finished Memorial Day with a doubleheader sweep that gave them a four-game lead in the National League Central. They’ve since dropped 11 of 13 games, getting blanked in four of them, to fall 2½ games behind the St. Louis Cardinals, their largest deficit of the season.
They’ll turn to Corbin Burnes on Wednesday in an effort to right the ship at Citi Field, where the New York Mets came away with a 4-0 win to begin the three-game series.

Let’s take a look at the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Brewers vs Mets. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions. Take action and bet on MLB now!
Burnes Looks to Rediscover Dominance
While the multitude of shutout losses and the ugly offensive numbers (.599 team OPS in June is the lowest in NL) stand out for the Milwaukee Brewers, they do need their ace to step up. Burnes has failed to get through five innings in back-to-back starts, giving up eight runs in eight innings overall.
Burnes’ march to the 2021 NL Cy Young Award featured two impressive outings vs the Mets, including one for his 11th and final win last September in which he struck out nine in seven innings of one-run ball.
Even if the hard-throwing righty gets on track, he’ll need more from a lineup that produced three hits Tuesday night, each of which was followed immediately by double plays.
“Yeah, we’re in a little bit of a funk, but every team is going to go through that. Everybody’s going to have their little stretches, might as well get it out (of) the way earlier than later,” Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez told reporters. “It’s just one of those things right now where we’re trying to roll with the punches.”

Mets Trying to Fend Off Scorching Braves
The New York Mets have won two straight and six of their last nine, a perfectly acceptable stretch for a division leader. But maybe not when compared to their primary challenger in the National League East, as the Atlanta Braves have put together a 13-game winning streak that figures to set up a great chase for the division this summer.
Mets fans have been disappointed by their team many times over the years, but the current unit seems to have the makeup to keep the Braves at bay.
The lead is down to five games from 10½ on the first day of the month, but New York is in good shape and should get stronger with the eventual returns of Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom, both of whom made positive strides Tuesday in their recoveries.
That matters little as it relates to Wednesday’s tilt, however, as David Peterson makes his first start in 11 days for the Mets. The former first-round pick is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA in eight games (six starts). The bullpen will be needed in this one as Peterson has lasted six innings just once. Another item to consider when glancing at the MLB lines.
Brewers vs Mets Head-to-Head
Tuesday’s win allowed the Mets to snap a four-game losing streak against the Brewers, which included that win by Burnes late last year. New York hasn’t won a season series against Milwaukee since 2016.

Brewers vs Mets Prediction
Normally, it’s hard to go against the Milwaukee Brewers and Burnes. But both the team and its best starter are mired in a mess, and coming out of that on the road against a first-place squad isn’t easy.
Peterson won’t light the world on fire, but nobody is swinging the bat for the Brewers right now. It’s a good spot for him to make a return to the rotation and help keep the Mets close, or win outright.
