Best MLB Player Props Today

Braves SP Chris Sale Over 7½ Strikeouts

We’ve backed the resurgence of Chris Sale in 2024, and so far, it’s paid off big time! I expected many bettors to fade Sale after his awful outing against Oakland two weeks ago, but our contrarian play in his last start against Washington worked in our favor. I’m going right back to him tonight in his start against the Tampa Bay Rays, and we’re getting a great price.

Chris Sale has been a revelation for the Atlanta Braves through his first 12 starts. He has finished with at least 7 strikeouts in 9 outings (75% of starts) and has exceeded 7 Ks in six of his last six of his previous seven starts. Sale has a 3.01 ERA but an xERA of 2.70 and a 0.94 WHIP. He is in the 97th percentile in Chase % and 91st in K%!

He has limited experience against the Rays, but Tampa’s lineup has struggled against southpaws. Over the last month, Tampa has been 24th in wRC+. They are below the league average in OPS against lefties and have the fourth-highest K % against southpaws this season! The Rays chase out of the zone at the fifth-highest rate in MLB. Tampa has the sixth-most total strikeouts and ranks seventh in Whiff % and K % in 2024.

The 35-year-old is finally healthy again and could be the difference maker for the Braves rotation this season. He even has himself in the conversation for NL Cy Young. I expect Sale to shove tonight and have another strong showing!

Phillies SP Ranger Suarez Over 2½ Earned Runs

Talk about contrarian. We’re going to fade the current NL Cy Young favorite tonight. The Philadelphia Phillies begin a three-game series at Camden Yards against the Orioles. The Phillies will send 28-year-old southpaw Ranger Suarez to the mound. It may come as a surprise that I’m fading him tonight, but hear me out. On Tuesday, we faded another Cy Young caliber arm in Max Fried against these O’s. Look at how that turned out.

Suarez will make his 14th start of the season. I expect the O’s to produce at home against the left-hander. I would have sipped on the juice at 1½ again like we did with Fried, but I’m taking this up to 2½ runs confidently at plus money. Baltimore is on a terrific run, winning 15 of its last 20 games.

The lefty has been phenomenal in 2024 and has thrown well. Through his first 13 outings, he has a 1.81 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP, good for second and first lowest in each respective category. So why am I fading him?

He made one start against Baltimore last season, throwing 6 innings and allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs. Suarez has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 10 of 13 starts this season. Suarez typically throws deep into games, which gives Baltimore more opportunities to cash in. He’s thrown at least 6 innings in 9 of 13 starts.

The Orioles have scored the third-most runs (337) in MLB and have the third-highest OPS (.758) behind only the Dodgers (.774) and the Yankees (.771). The O’s have been phenomenal at home, ranking in the top five in every significant offensive category. Against lefties, they have the second-most homers, the fifth-highest batting average (.264), and the third-highest OPS (.791). This series will be a great litmus test for the young Orioles.

Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson have been tremendous against lefties, ranking third and sixth in OPS among all hitters against southpaws. Look for Rutschman to do damage. He owns the best batting average against lefties in MLB (.419). Bank on Baltimore to push at least three runs across the plate against Suarez.
