Cardinals Look to Stifle Cubs
The Chicago Cubs continued to struggle. After Tuesday’s loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the team has dropped three straight and four of five. The 6-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday marked the second straight game that they’ve been shut out.
The Cubs haven’t surpassed four runs in a game in any of their last eight contests, which obviously makes it difficult to have confidence in this team in terms of the MLB betting odds.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals have won four of five. Is this as easy of a bet online as it looks or is there value with the Cubs for your MLB picks? Let’s take a closer look.

Cubs: Offense Nowhere to be Found
Chicago doesn’t have any wind in their sails after getting shut out in consecutive games. Ian Happ is batting .190 in the last week while Wilson Contreras is at .167. That’s bad and there aren’t many other bright spots.
Justin Steele is ready to take to the mound but he’s just 4-7. He does have a respectable 3.86 ERA but his 1.43 WHIP is pretty bad.
Steele and the Cubs haven’t worked well on the road. He is 1-3 with a 4.71 ERA during road games compared to his 3-4 record and 3.29 ERA at home.
The team has lost four of his last five road starts while giving up an ugly 39 runs in those contests.
Mikolas Starts for Cardinals
With a lot of momentum behind them, the St. Louis Cardinals are putting this game in the hands of Miles Mikolas to keep them marching forward. Mikolas has compiled an 8-8 record with some pretty strong numbers to back it up.
He’s got the 18th-best ERA in the majors at 2.86 and a sparkling 0.99 WHIP. The Cardinals should have probably won more of his starts but they don’t give him much run support.
Mikolas has faced the Cubs twice this season. The Cardinals won both of those matchups and outscored them 19-8.
Keep in mind that the Cubs bat .415 against him as a team. Happ is 7-for-20 and Contreras is 5-of-17. Some of that was in previous years but the team is still batting .286 against him in 2022.
Cubs vs Cardinals Head-to-Head
The Cardinals have beaten the Cubs five of nine times this season.

Cubs vs Cardinals Prediction
The Cubs have been able to hold their own against the Cardinals. However, Mikolas has been a thorn in their side all year.
There’s a lot of juice to lay here with the Cards in the sportsbook, so go under the number instead. The Cub’s bats have been ice cold of late, so it’s hard seeing this NL Central showdown go over unless the Cards do all of the heavy lifting themselves.
