Yankees Own Best Record In Majors
The Chicago Cubs try to snap a three-game losing streak when they visit the New York Yankees for the first of a three-game weekend series on Friday night. Thanks to a rainout, Chicago has been off since losing to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The Cubss are in fourth place in the National League Central standings.
New York is coming off a victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday and owns the top record in baseball. These two teams are far apart in records, but before you decide how to bet online on this game, read our in-depth preview of the series opener.
Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Cubs vs Yankees. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Cubs Hope for More From Miley
The Chicago Cubs brought in veteran left-hander Wade Miley in the offseason, but he didn’t get his first start with his new team until May due to elbow inflammation. He’s been on the injured list again for the past couple of weeks due to a shoulder strain, but he’s set to make his fourth start with the Cubs on Friday night.
The left-hander is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA, striking out 10 in 16 innings. The 35-year-old took a no-decision in his last start before his latest injured list stint, going six innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 22 and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two.
Third baseman Patrick Wisdom leads Chicago with 12 home runs and 31 RBIs, though he’s batting just .148 in June. Overall, Wisdom is batting .222 with 12 doubles and 32 runs scored.
Catcher Willson Contreras has a team-high .277 batting average and hit his second home run in five games in Tuesday’s loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Contreras has 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 23 RBIs and 35 runs scored.
Yankees Resilient
In a game in which starting pitcher Gerrit Cole allowed a career-high five home runs over just 2.1 innings, it might have been easy for the New York Yankees to fold and focus on the next contest. But on Thursday night, despite being down 7-3 when Cole left the game, New York rallied for a 10-7 victory. It was the Yankeees’ 16th come-from-behind win, tying the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies for the most in the majors.
“With this team, we’re never out of a game, especially that early in the game,” Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks said after Thursday’s win. “We have a lot of veteran guys that are in this lineup that understand that you’ve got to keep pushing throughout the whole game. We’re a team that can score a lot of runs.”
New York has scored an American League-best 279 runs and hit an MLB-high 87 home runs in the process. Hicks had one of the team’s four home runs on Thursday, with outfielder Joey Gallo belting two.
Outfielder Aaron Judge leads the New York hit parade with an MLB-best 22 home runs. Judge is batting .310 with 10 doubles, 45 RBIs (tied for fifth in baseball) and 48 runs scored (most in the American League).
Right-hander Luis Severino will get the start for Friday’s series opener. Severino is 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 10 starts, striking out 61 in 55 innings. He’s coming off a brilliant performance in his last start, throwing seven shutout innings against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday and allowing just one hit while striking out 10 and walking one.
Cubs vs Yankees Head-to-Head
These two storied franchises have faced each other just 24 times in their histories heading into Friday’s series opener, and the New York Yankees have dominated those matchups. New York was 3-0 against the Chicago Cubs in 2017, the last season these two squared off, which improved their all-time record against the Cubs to 20-4.
That domination has been even more complete at home, with the Yankees going 9-0 against Chicago. The MLB lines are anticipating that dominance to continue as the Yankees are a big favorite in Friday’s contest.

Cubs vs Yankees Prediction
If Miley is pitching at his best, the Chicago Cubs may be able to hang in this game for a little bit, but it’s hard to see the New York Yankees’ lineup being kept quiet for long. Severino should dominate the Cubs’ lineup as the Yankees get off to a good start with a victory.
When doing your MLB betting, take New York to get the home win.
