Milwaukee Hoping to Stave off Elimination

Brewers on Two-Game Losing Streak

The Milwaukee Brewers try to snap a two-game losing skid and stay alive for the postseason when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first of a three-game series on Monday night. Milwaukee lost the last two games of its series with the Miami Marlins and trails the Philadelphia Phillies by two games for the final Wild Card spot in the National League with three to play.

Arizona has alternated between wins and losses over its last five contests and is in fourth place in the NL West standings. A lot is on the line for the Brewers in this one, but before you make a bet online on this contest, check out our in-depth preview.

Let’s check the latest MLB odds, stats, injury reports, and MLB lines for Diamondbacks vs Brewers Prediction. We’ve plenty of Vegas MLB odds for you to consider.

Diamondbacks Struggle on Road

The Arizona Diamondbacks were hoping to finish the season strong and possibly catch the San Francisco Giants for third place in the NL West, but a weekend series against the Giants ended with two losses in three games, including an extra-inning setback on Sunday. Arizona has struggled on the road this season, going 33-45 heading into this final series.

Left-hander Tommy Henry will get the start for the series opener for the Diamondbacks. Henry is 3-4 with a 5.98 ERA in eight starts in his rookie campaign, striking out 31 in 40⅔ innings. The 25-year-old is coming off a no-decision against the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 23, going 4⅔ innings and allowing five runs on six hits, including three home runs, while striking out six and walking three.

Outfielder Jake McCarthy was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored in Sunday’s loss. McCarthy is batting .295 with 16 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 43 RBIs and 53 runs scored in 96 games.

Brewers: No Margin of Error

The Milwaukee Brewers have no room for error, and they’re going to need some help. The Philadelphia Phillies must lose three times to the Houston Astros over the next three days while the Brewers have to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks. Anything less means the postseason is out of the picture for Milwaukee.

“The math is pretty simple, but we can only take care of (ourselves),”Brewers manager Craig Counsell said after Sunday’s 12-inning loss to the Miami Marlins. “We have to try and come out and win a game (Monday) because that’s what we can control. That’s the mission (Monday).”

To do that, Milwaukee must be better at hitting in the clutch after dropping a pair of one-run games over the last two contests of the four-game series with the Marlins. In Sunday’s extra-inning affair, the Brewers were 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.

Right-hander Brandon Woodruff will get the call to start the series on Monday, his 27th start. Woodruff is 13-4 with a 3.05 ERA, striking out 183 in 147⅓ innings. He was outstanding in his last start, going six scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing just five hits while striking out 10 and walking one.

Diamondbacks vs Brewers Head-To-Head

The Arizona Diamondbacks are hoping for the same kind of success they had earlier in the season when they hosted the Milwaukee Brewers and won three of the four contests. With one victory in this series, the Diamondbacks can clinch the season series against the Brewers for the first time since 2017.

Milwaukee has had plenty of success against Arizona at home, taking nine of the last 10 games played at American Family Field. The MLB lines for Monday’s contest are giving the Brewers the edge to continue that success.
