Los Angeles Dominates Series at Home

Tall Task for Arizona

The Los Angeles Dodgers try to build on the momentum of a come-from-behind win when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series. Los Angeles salvaged the final game of a four-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, keeping its slim lead in the National League West over the San Diego Padres.

Arizona has dropped two in a row and is just a half-game ahead of the last-place Colorado Rockies in the division standings. These two teams are familiar with each other, so this should be a tight series. Check out our in-depth preview to help you make your bet online on Monday’s contest.

Diamondbacks Trying to Find Some Runs

The Arizona Diamondbacks dropped two of three to the Chicago Cubs over the weekend, scoring a total of eight runs. The Diamondbacks are 24th in baseball in scoring with 124 runs and 29th in team batting average at .204.

Outfielder Daulton Varsho, batting .254 to lead the Diamondbacks, went 4-for-12 in the three-game series. Varsho has seven doubles, six home runs, 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

First baseman Christian Walker is batting just .203, but he has a team-high six home runs. Walker has three multi-hit games in his last five contests, and he has seven doubles, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Veteran left-hander Madison Bumgarner will get the start for Arizona in the series opener. Bumgarner is 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA in seven starts in 2022, striking out 20 in 30⅓ innings. The 32-year-old earned a win in his last start against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, going 6⅓ innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking one.

Dodgers Avert Sweep

The Los Angeles Dodgers were staring a four-game home sweep in the face on Sunday, falling behind 4-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies after dropping the first three contests of their series at Dodger Stadium. But a rally, capped by a two-run, walk-off double by Gavin Lux, gave Los Angeles the win, snapping a four-game losing streak and possibly propelling the team back on the winning track.

“You can’t always be in front,” Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger said after Sunday’s win. “It’s nice to get hit with some adversity and see how we respond, because it’s not always going to be smooth sailing.”

Outfielder Mookie Betts had a big game on Sunday, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Betts is batting .254 with five doubles, seven home runs, 17 RBIs and 29 runs scored, which is tied for the most in baseball.

First baseman Freddie Freeman leads Los Angeles with a .295 batting average, though he’s coming off consecutive 0-for-3 days at the plate. In his first season with the Dodgers, Freeman has 10 doubles, a triple, three home runs, 13 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Right-hander Tony Gonsolin will make his seventh start on Monday. Gonsolin is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA, having won his last two starts. Gonsolin was almost untouchable against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, throwing five innings of one-hit ball while striking out five and walking four.

Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Head-to-Head

The Arizona Diamondbacks have the early lead in the season series, taking two of three in Phoenix in late April. The Los Angeles Dodgers have dominated their division rival over the past two seasons, going a combined 24-5, including a 12-1 record at home.

Arizona has not won a season series against Los Angeles since 2018 and hasn’t won a majority of the games played at Dodger Stadium since 2013. The MLB lines are set with the assumption that trend is going to continue in this series, with the Dodgers a heavy favorite in Monday’s opener.

Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Prediction

The Los Angeles Dodgers needed a win in the worst way, and now that they got it on Sunday, they should be playing more relaxed against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gonsolin has been very good on the mound of late and he should shut down the visitors in another Dodgers victory.

When making your MLB picks, take Los Angeles to get the win at home.
