Picks, Prediction for Diamondbacks vs Nationals on Tuesday, June 6

Arizona Opens Road Trip

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been one of the biggest risers up MLB odds this season, fighting for first place in the National League West. They will face the Washington Nationals in a three-game series that starts on Tuesday.

With the Nationals in fifth place in the NL East, the MLB lines should lean toward the Diamondbacks, even though they lost their last series.

Diamondbacks Tied Atop Division

While the Diamondbacks have played like one of the best teams in the NL, it is not where MLB betting thought they would be. That made the last series against the Atlanta Braves, a team most expected to be a top contender, feel like a measuring stick.

However, the Diamondbacks lost the series 2-1, winning the opening game to extend a streak to six before losing the last two. The pitching staff, the team’s strength, allowed 13 runs in the last two games, including a grand slam in the ninth inning of the series finale.

Nationals Continue to Rebuild

The Nationals were not expected to win many games this season, and they have stayed true to that. They are in the middle of a rebuild but are at least showing some life. Depending on the matchup, Washington is a decent option for MLB picks and parlays – a team that can surprise an opponent.

What might make things a little worse is the MLB news of Stephen Strasburg dealing with nerve damage. While he has not pitched this season, when healthy, Strasburg is one of the top arms in baseball and could be helpful to this rebuild.

Starting Pitchers

Tommy Henry (3-1, 3.73 ERA) vs Jake Irvin (1-3, 5.67)

Tommy Henry will be taking the mound for the Diamondbacks and seems to have filled into the third starting spot behind the two marquee names of the rotation. He has been solid with a 3.73 ERA, with seven of his eight appearances coming in starts. Henry had struggled a little, with a 4.68 ERA before coming out of the bullpen for a game. In Henry’s next and most recent outing, he went seven shutout innings, striking out seven and only allowing two hits.

Like many of the young starting pitchers for the Nationals, Jake Irvin has struggled. In his first two starts, he had a 0.84 ERA, which has ballooned to 5.67 over the last four outings. Irvin did go five innings in his last start, the best since his second appearance, but he allowed four runs.

Diamondbacks vs Nationals Head-to-Head

These teams have already played a series this season, with the Diamondbacks winning it 2-1. Two games hit the over.

Diamondbacks vs Nationals Betting Lines

Over/Under Pick

While the Diamondbacks have been a good team, the solid pitching and inconsistent offense have not led them to be dependable over/under MLB picks. In the last 10 games, Arizona has hit the under seven times. The Nationals have been a little better, hitting the over in six of the last 10 games, but they are still unreliable.

Pick: Under 9½ (-110)

Moneyline Pick

The Diamondbacks are the more talented team, and after losing a series, they should look to show that. Having Henry on the mound may also help, having looked good in his last start. He should be able to have a good game, with the offense doing enough against a struggling Nationals rotation.

Pick: Diamondbacks – 143
