Colorado On Two-Game Slide
The Arizona Diamondbacks try to win a second straight contest when they face the host Colorado Rockies for the second of a three-game weekend series between NL West rivals on Saturday night. Arizona took the series opener, its third win in four games, to increase its lead to two games over the last-place Rockies. Colorado has lost two in a row and is just .500 when playing at home. These teams are battling to get back in the playoff race, so this should be another good game between familiar foes. Diamondbacks Offense Continues Recent Surge
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ bats have woken up over the last week, with the team averaging 9.0 runs in their three wins over the last four games. Of course, the one loss in that span was a shutout, but the recent resurgence of the team’s offense has been a welcome sight.
“I think these guys have a great skill to put the bat on the ball and barrel up the baseball,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said after Friday’s win, which saw the Diamondbacks hit three home runs and score nine runs. “As I said, I think home runs are thrown, not hit. There’s a certain part of execution throughout the course of the at-bat and you’ve got to be stubborn to it. I think we did that tonight.
“This is what I’m talking about. You know, they spoil me when they do it. It looks like this. And the days where I get a little frustrated, I think we come out of our approach, so we’ve just got to continue to be stubborn and stick with our approach.”
Outfielder David Peralta had his 10th home run in the win, giving him two in his last five games. Peralta is hitting .248 with 16 doubles, a triple, 31 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
Left-hander Dallas Keuchel will make his second start for the Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Keuchel, who joined the team after being released earlier this season by the Chicago White Sox, took a no-decision in his first Arizona start, going 4⅓ innings against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking three. On the season, he’s 2-5 with a 7.93 ERA in nine starts.
Rockies Continue To Have Trouble With Health
For the second straight game, the Colorado Rockies saw their starting pitcher go down with an injury, with Friday’s starter Antonio Senzatela leaving after just two innings due to tightness in his shoulder. On Wednesday, starter German Marquez exited in the fourth inning of a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers with a cut thumb.
Left-hander Austin Gomber will try to end that dubious streak when he gets the start on Saturday night. Gomber is 3-7 with a 6.55 ERA in 12 starts and 14 overall appearances in 2022, recording 52 strikeouts and 22 walks in 67⅓ innings. He’s appeared in relief in his last two appearances, including a 2⅔-inning stint against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday in which he allowed one run on two hits.
Outfielder Charlie Blackmon had a solo home run in Friday’s loss, though he also struck out twice. Blackmon is hitting .267 with 13 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
First baseman C.J. Cron extended his hitting streak to six games with a double on Friday, though his RBI streak ended at four games. Cron is batting .293 with 17 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 56 RBIs and 45 runs scored, leading the team in the last three categories.
D’Backs vs Rockies Head-To-Head
The Arizona Diamondbacks have now won three of the first four meetings of the season with the Colorado Rockies as they try for their first season series victory against their division rival since 2017. The Rockies edged the Diamondbacks 10-9 in 2021, which followed a 5-5 tie in the season series the previous season.
Colorado dominated at home last season, taking seven of the nine matchups at Coors Field. That is expected to continue if you believe the MLB lines for Saturday’s contest, which are giving the edge to the Rockies to come out on top.

D’Backs vs Rockies Prediction
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been hitting the ball well of late, and they’re taking on a pitcher in Gomber who is making his first start in a couple of weeks. The Colorado Rockies will need more from their offense, but we don’t see them having enough to get the victory.
