Dodger Blue: Streaking Mets Betting Pick on Friday

After a rocky start to the 2024 season, the Mets have gotten hot over the last four series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the favorites for MLB moneyline picks but are not playing at the level of the streaking Mets.

In the last series, the Mets had a three-game sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning by scoring 18 runs while only allowing five. On the other hand, the Dodgers lost two of three games in their last series to the rebuilding Washington Nationals.

This will be a very interesting pitching matchup for the best MLB prop bets today. The Dodgers will have Yoshinobu Yamamoto taking the mound. He was one of the high-profile signings in free this offseason but has struggled. Yamamoto has a 4.50 ERA through four starts, and while that isn’t terrible, it is not what most expected out of him.

The Mets will have Sean Manaea take the mound. He had two great starts at the beginning of the season but gave up eight runs (six earned) in his last outing, which jumped his ERA to 4.30.

Mets vs Dodgers Moneyline Pick: Mets +170

It might be a surprise, especially with the Mets being the underdog in this series, but they are playing so well that it is hard for MLB betting not to take them at these odds against the Dodgers. A big reason for this quick turnaround has been the Mets’ lineup getting hot. They have scored the second-most runs (74) over the last 15 days.

That plays right into the hands of Yamamoto’s surprising struggles. While it is still early in his MLB career, most expected him to come from Japan and immediately dominate. That has not been the case. He allowed three runs and two homers in five innings during his last start after a solid outing in which he went five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. There have been flashes of what Yamamoto could be, but there has yet to be any consistency.

Given how hot the Mets have been, the lineup certainly has a chance to have some success against Yamamoto. Furthermore, despite Manaea’s last start, he has looked really good. In his first two outings this season, he allowed only one run and four hits through 11 innings, striking out 14 batters.

However, the Dodgers’ lineup is potent with Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman leading the way, but Manaea has still been solid. Of the two lineups, the Mets have been the hotter option, which could lead to them outscoring the Dodgers All-Stars for MLB picks.

Mets vs Dodgers Over/Under Pick: Over 8½ (Ev)

The over just makes the most sense in this game. While the Mets do not have the star power that the Dodgers possess in their lineup, they are on a hot streak at the moment. On top of that, the Dodgers still have all the power bats to put up high-scoring games, especially against a pitcher that just gave up eight runs.

Another reason to lean MLB lines toward the over is the pitching. Yamamoto has been hit or miss from start to start while Manaea was rocked for eight runs in his last outing. Each starting pitcher could struggle early against good lineups.

Mets vs Dodgers Player Prop Pick: Pete Alonso Over 0.5 Runs + RBIs (-136)

Pete Alonso may not have gotten off to the most impressive start this season, but he consistently impacts the Mets’ offense. Over the last nine games, he has scored a run in all but one. With his ability to hit homers or use his power to get on base, Alonso is the key for the Mets’ offense to put up some runs.
