Dodgers vs Guardians: Lock In Los Angeles Covering Run Line

The blazing-hot Los Angeles Dodgers (76-47) begin a two-series road trip on Tuesday. The Dodgers, who are 9-1 in the last 10 games, begin with a visit to the Buckeye State to take on the Cleveland Guardians (59-66). Cleveland is 1-4 in its last five games and has not won a series since July 26.

As expected, MLB lines have the Guardians as heavy underdogs for this three-game series. Does Cleveland have any chance of beating one of the sportsbook’s favorites to win the World Series?

Starting Pitchers

Bobby Miller (7-2, 3.70 ERA) vs Noah Syndergaard (2-6, 6.57)

The Dodgers will start Bobby Miller for Game 1. Los Angeles has thrived with the rookie on the bump in August. Miller has a 1.15 ERA with opponents batting .190 in his last three starts. During that span, the Dodgers have been a great bet, covering three consecutive run lines.

This is a revenge game for Noah Syndergaard. The Dodgers shipped the struggling pitcher for shortstop Amed Rosario at the trade deadline. It’s no secret Syndergaard is a shell of himself. He is no longer the dominant pitcher with flowing locks, donning the New York Mets’ blue and orange. Syndergaard has a career-low 6.57 ERA. His previous low was 4.28 in 2019. How the mighty have fallen.

Freeman Tees Off on Syndergaard

Syndergaard has been like Jekyll & Hyde over his previous four starts. He allowed 11 combined runs in two starts and only two combined runs in the other two appearances. So what will the Guardians get on Tuesday?

Probably a monstrosity – not in a good way. Syndergaard ranks in the bottom 40% of Savant’s hard-hit percentage. He has surrendered six homers in his last three starts. Los Angeles is second in big flies per game. How can we spin this into a quality MLB pick?

First baseman Freddie Freeman has Syndergaard’s number. He has a career batting average of .417 against the veteran right-hander. This isn’t a small sample size either, as Freeman has 24 at-bats against Syndergaard. Put the two together, we have Freeman hitting a home run.

Pick: Freddie Freeman to Hit a Home Run (+420)

Dodgers Coast With Run Line Cover

Over the weekend, Southern California was hit by a tropical storm for the first time in 84 years. This caused several MLB games to shift, including the Dodgers’ bout with the Miami Marlins. Los Angeles has not played since Saturday. Could the extended break cause some rust? Two off days shouldn’t cause too much trouble.

In fact, we are not worried about the rest whatsoever. I am hammering the Dodgers to cover the run line. In Miller’s last three starts, Los Angeles has won by an average margin of 3.7 runs.

Miller should be in store for another strong start. Look at Cleveland’s batting order. There’s not much there. Poor Jose Ramirez, shouldering the load as usual. Josh Naylor’s absence with a strained oblique has made the issue even worse. The Guardians are averaging 2.5 runs in their last six games and rank 28th in runs per game.

We also mentioned Syndergaard’s tendency to allow home runs. The Dodgers should win comfortably.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1½ (-130)
