Dodgers vs Phillies Prediction, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds and Picks
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue their road trip on Friday when they open a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies in the City of Brotherly Love. LA snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday and avoided an embarrassing sweep to the Cincinnati Reds. Meanwhile, the Phillies are on a heater with wins in their previous five games.
The MLB odds list the Dodgers as slight favorites on the moneyline with a betting total of 9½.
Dodgers Fall out of First
The Dodgers stopped the bleeding with a win on Thursday, but not before the shockingly good Arizona Diamondbacks took over first place in the National League West. I liked the Dodgers’ chances to lose the division for just the second time in a decade but to the Padres, not the D-Backs.
With a shaky starter, and a 1-4 record against the spread (ATS) in their last five games, the Dodgers are a dodgy MLB bet with not-so-valuable odds.
Phillies Down, Not Out
The Phillies are a lame-duck World Series participant with poor results for most of the season. But business is picking up, and Philly is on a five-game win streak for the second time this season.
Despite the current surge, we can’t forget that the Phillies are the second-worst road team to bet on, with a 15-20 record against the MLB spread.
Starting Pitchers
Michael Grove (0-2, 8.14 ERA) vs Ranger Suarez (1-2, 5.47)
The Dodgers are taking a considerable risk starting Michael Grove, considering his lack of positive results this season. He’s yet to notch a win, has games where he walked more batters than he struck out, and has a WHIP of 1.52.
The current Phillies lineup has a poor .167 batting average against the Grove in limited action. As short favorites on the moneyline, the Dodgers are a high-risk MLB bet on Friday.
The Phillies aren’t in much better shape with Ranger Suarez on the bump despite earning his first win of the year on Sunday. His strikeout numbers are low, his walks are high and it took a game against the lowly Washington Nationals to walk away with a victory.
The Dodgers are hitting .273 against Suarez in 55 all-time at-bats with six extra-base hits and an OPS of .799.

The Phillies’ offense has picked up the pace during their winning streak, with two 8+ run games. Grove is coming off a bad start, and I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel for him against the Dodgers’ deadly bats. At 9½, it will be close, but I’m adding the over to my MLB picks for Friday.

Moneyline Pick
I’m not excited about betting on either team on Friday, but I will side with the Phillies at home to extend their winning streak. Suarez is coming off a much-needed quality start, giving the Phillies an advantage on the mound against a difficult opponent.
