Dodgers: Mound Woes
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been allowing teams to score runs of late, with opponents averaging 4.7 runs over the last four contests, including seven by the Colorado Rockies in Tuesday’s contest. The Dodgers enter Wednesday’s action with the second-best team ERA in baseball at 2.99, so they’re hoping to get a better performance in the series finale.
Left-hander Julio Urias will try to shut down the Rockies when he makes his 15th start. Urias is 5-6 with a 2.48 ERA (10th in baseball), striking out 71 in 76⅓ innings. Urias has won his last two starts and is 2-1 with a 1.54 ERA in four starts in June. He threw six innings against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out nine and walking two.
Shortstop Trea Turner was 1-for-5 with a solo home run on Tuesday night. Turner is batting .311 with 17 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 54 RBIs and 41 runs scored.
Third baseman Max Muncy also had a solo shot in Tuesday’s loss, ending a four-game hitless streak. Muncy is batting just .167 with six doubles, a triple, six home runs, 21 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Rockies Taming Dodgers
The Colorado Rockies seem to have the number of the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning four of the five meetings. On Tuesday night, they tagged Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw for six runs and nine hits in just four innings to earn the victory.
“I thought we did a good job of recognizing balls and strikes — being ready to hit but laying off the borderline pitches,” Colorado manager Bud Black said after Tuesday’s win. “Aggressive on strikes, taking balls. That’s a good approach.”
Outfielder Charlie Blackmon had four hits and scored twice in the contest and is hitting .357 in 14 at-bats against Los Angeles this season. Blackmon is batting .268 overall with 13 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and 38 runs scored.
Outfielder Randal Grichuk had a home run on Tuesday, his third in his last nine games. Grichuk is batting .254 with eight doubles, eight home runs, 35 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Colorado will have right-hander German Marquez on the mound for Wednesday’s contest. The 27-year-old is making his 15th start, bringing a 4-5 record and 5.58 ERA into the contest. Marquez is coming off a brilliant performance in his last start, throwing 7.2 shutout innings against the Minnesota Twins, allowing three hits while striking out two and walking five.
Dodgers vs Rockies Head-To-Head
The success of the Colorado Rockies against the Los Angeles Dodgers is a complete turnaround from the last few years. Los Angeles had a 48-20 record against the Rockies from 2018 through 2021.
Playing in Colorado wasn’t a problem for the Dodgers, who were 23-11 at Coors Field in those four seasons. The MLB lines are leaning on the side of Los Angeles in the series finale, favoring it to at least salvage one win.
