Giants vs A’s Game Preview, Odds, Live Stream, Picks & Predictions, August 6

A’s Look To Keep Struggling Giants Down

The San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s, teams going in opposite directions of late, will meet Saturday. The Giants got their season off to a strong start by going 14-7 in April but it has been pretty much all downhill since, culminating with an 11-20 mark in July and August, including losses in 12 of their last 15 games. The A’s were dreadfully bad for the first three months (25-53) but have gone 16-13 since with wins in 9 of their last 13 contests.

Let’s check the latest MLB news, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Giants vs A’s. We’ve plenty of MLB picks & predictions.

Giants vs A’s Picks

Murphy Making Noise with Bat

Already an elite defensive catcher, Sean Murphy has started to become a threat with the bat as well for the A’s. The reigning Gold Glove winner is well on the way to establishing career marks in nearly every statistical category on offense and has cut down on his strikeouts. The 27-year-old enjoyed his best month of the season in July and that has carried over into August, during which he is 5 of 12 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and six RBI. The A’s considered trade offers for Murphy but opted to keep him working with their young pitching staff following the departure of veterans Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino via trade to the Yankees. “I’m happy to be an A,” he told the media. “We’re building something good and we’re playing better baseball. It’s a compliment to be on the trading block, but I’m just so happy to be here.”

Davis Hoping To Get Giants Winning Again

The Giants added J.D. Davis via trade from the Mets to help spark their struggling offense, but in his first two games, they have scored three runs. The designated hitter did have a home run and two RBI in his second game with the club. Davis’ best season came in 2019 with the Mets when he batted .307 with 22 home runs but he hasn’t been able to replicate it nor has he surpassed 190 at-bats in any season since.  “This organization has always been a winner,” Davis, who went from the first place Mets to the sinking Giants, told the media. “I sure as hell want to be a winner.”

Giants vs A’s Head-to-Head

The Giants and A’s have split a pair of games this season but going back three years, the A’s have an 8-6 advantage. The underdog on the mlb odds run line won 10 of the 14 games.

Giants vs A’s Name Prediction

With Adam Oller getting the start for the A’s, expect plenty of runs. The right-hander has allowed 38 hits, 30 earned runs and 14 walks in 29.4 innings pitched in his seven starts this season.

Oller’s counterpart with the Giants, Carlos Rodon, has been effective in all but a handful of his 21 starts, allowing three earned runs or fewer in 17 of them. Tough to place a sports bet on the Giants against the run line as they have lost 13 of their last 15 against the spread and have lost four of Rodon’s last six starts. The over makes a lot of sense for those betting online.
