NL West Rivals Close out Season
The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres meet for one last time in 2022. The Padres are heading to the playoffs as a wild-card team despite trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers by 23 games in the division race. The Giants were eliminated last week and have little to nothing to play for in this series. On the other hand, the Padres are still trying to fend off the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers for the No. 5 seed.
Let’s check the latest MLB odds, stats, injury reports, and MLB lines for Giants vs Padres. We’ve plenty of Vegas MLB odds for you to consider.
Bullpen Game for Giants
The Giants are kicking this series off with a bullpen game led by right-hander John Brebbia (6-2, 3.14 ERA). Brebbia has been successful this season in one-inning appearances and should limit the Padre’s damage early on. The problem is that it’s doubtful Brebbia pitches more than an inning, and the Giants bullpen is below average with a 4.03 ERA. This has been the Giants’ downfall multiple times.
San Francisco needs to do a better job of producing runs against San Diego after scoring four or fewer in four of the last six meetings. But, San Francisco could be in for a tough day at the plate with the pitching matchup San Diego presents.
Musgrove Making Final Start
At one point this season, Joe Musgrove (10-7, 3.03) was having a Cy Young Award caliber season. But July and August were very unkind to the Padres’ ace after posting identical 4.24 ERAs. He went 1-4 in those 10 starts and looked like a different pitcher.
But, Musgrove turned things around in September and is coming off two scoreless appearances in his last three starts. One of which came against the fearsome Los Angeles Dodgers. In his last 16 innings, Musgrove allowed one earned run and 13 hits with a K/BB rate of 20/6.
Despite an extended slump, Musgrove maintained his dominance of the Giants all season long. The righty has a 1.30 ERA in four starts with a .151 opponent batting average in 27⅔ innings.
Giants vs Padres Head-to-Head
Monday’s series opener marks the 17th time these NL West rivals will face off. The Padres hold a commanding 11-5 lead overall and 9-7 against the spread. The over/under is 9-7.

Giants vs Padres Prediction
The Padres have two things going for them in this game. First, they have a lot to play for in their quest to hold onto the No. 5 seed. Second, Musgrove has pitched four quality starts against the Giants and will be motivated to carry some momentum into the postseason. The Giants aren’t scary, and their bullpen game strategy has a low chance of success.
