San Francisco on Three-Game Losing Streak
The Colorado Rockies try to win a second straight game against the visiting San Francisco Giants when the teams square off in the second of a three-game weekend series on Saturday. Colorado took the series opener, snapping a five-game losing streak, but is sitting in last place in the NL West, four games behind the fourth-place Arizona Diamondbacks. San Francisco has lost three in a row and is in third place in the division standings, four games ahead of the Diamondbacks.
Giants Can’t Complete Comeback in Opener
The San Francisco Giants fell behind 7-0 on Friday night, only to score four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make the game somewhat competitive. But, the Giants just didn’t have enough, finishing with only five hits in their third straight setback.
Outfielder Joc Pederson got the Giants’ offense started with a solo home run and finished 2-for-4.
Outfielder Austin Slater came into the game as a pinch-hitter, delivering with a two-run single. S
Right-hander Alex Cobb will try to keep the Colorado offense in check when he makes his 20th start. Cobb is 4-6 with a 3.99 ERA, striking out 105 in 99⅓ innings. He’s coming off a win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in which he went six innings and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out five and walking three.
Montero Powers Rockies In Opening Victory
The Colorado Rockies have not had a good week, getting swept on the road by the St. Louis Cardinals, which was especially tough for rookie Elehuris Montero, who used to be a prospect in the St. Louis organization before getting dealt with the Rockies. Montero turned things around on Friday night, however, hitting his first two home runs at Coors Field to power Colorado to a 7-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
“I feel like there’s more in there,” Montero said after Friday’s win. “I’ve just got to continue to work hard. You guys are going to see the real Montero.”
Montero went 2-for-4 with five RBIs. The 24-year-old is batting .258 with nine doubles, three home runs, 12 RBIs, and 12 runs scored in 27 games with the Rockies this season.
Outfielder Connor Joe also had a home run in the win. Joe was 2-for-3 and is batting .243 with 19 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 25 RBIs, and 53 runs scored.
Colorado will turn to right-hander Ryan Feltner, who is 2-4 with a 6.39 ERA, striking out 44 in 50⅔ innings. The 25-year-old has struggled of late, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) over a combined 10 innings in his last two starts.
Giants vs Rockies Head-To-Head
The San Francisco Giants lead the season series with the Colorado Rockies 6-4 despite Friday’s setback as they try to win the season series for the second straight season. San Francisco dominated in 2021, taking 15 of the 19 matchups between the two division rivals.
Playing at Coors Field hasn’t been difficult for the Giants, as they’re 2-2 at the venue this season and went 7-2 in Denver a season ago. The MLB lines for Saturday’s contest are counting on that success continuing, with San Francisco favored to come away with a win.

Giants vs Rockies Prediction
The Colorado Rockies can put some runs on the board when they get rolling, but they’ll be facing Cobb, who has been pitching well recently. The San Francisco Giants should find their offense earlier in this one and even up the weekend series with a victory.
