Yankees Eyeing World Series Run
There will be plenty of newcomers taking the field on both sides when the San Francisco Giants head to New York for a three-game series with MLB picks favoring the home team.
The pitching matchup could be a special one with Logan Webb (15-9, 2.90 ERA) getting the ball for the Giants and Gerrit Cole (13-8, 3.50 ERA) going for the Yankees.
Webb was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts in Spring Training. Sean Hjelle (1-0, 1.59 ERA, 22 strikeouts in 17 innings) and Taylor Rogers (1.08 ERA) were the most effective relievers for the Giants.
Cole was 1-1 with a 3.92 ERA, 27 strikeouts and one walk in 21.2 innings in five spring starts.
Ron Marinaccio (15 strikeouts, one earned run allowed in 7.1 innings) and Michael King (0.93 ERA, 11 strikeouts in 9.2 innings) will be key bullpen arms for New York.
It will be interesting to see how the new rules, especially the pitching clock, will impact the starting pitchers.
When looking at the MLB news, the Giants will start the season without outfielders Luis Gonzalez (back), Mitch Haniger (oblique) and Austin Slater while corner infielder David Villar (hip) is questionable.
For the Yankees, Harrison Bader (oblique) and catcher Austin Wells (ribs) are out. Pitchers Luis Gil, Tommy Kahnle, Frankie Montas, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino and Lou Trivino are sidelined as well.
According to the MLB odds, the Yankees (+750) are second in the odds to win the World Series. The Giants come in at +5000.
New-Look Giants
It is hard to know what to expect from this San Francisco Giants team.
Their most productive hitters in the spring were Blake Sabol, Casey Schmitt, Bryce Johnson and Brett Auerbach. It is uncertain how often they will be part of the batting order in San Francisco.
Outfielder Joc Pederson hit 23 home runs in his first season with the Giants and he could easily top that number. J.D. Davis hit eight home runs in 49 games with the Giants.
Catcher Joey Bart and infielders Thairo Estrada and LaMonte Wade are all 20-somethings who could hold the key to the season.
The MLB betting lines total went over in seven of San Francisco’s last eight games during the 2022 season.
Judge Ready for an Encore
Plenty of eyes will be on Aaron Judge to see what he will do for an encore after setting the American League record with 62 home runs to win the MVP award.
Anthony Volpe, a 21-year-old former first-round pick, is set to take over at shortstop after hitting .309 with 10 extra-base hits and five stolen bases in 19 Spring games.

Oswaldo Cabrera is another young hitter who had an impressive spring while Andres Chaparro hit five home runs in the spring.
There are concerns about the starting pitching depth due to injuries.
The Las Vegas odds total has gone under in six of the New York Yankees last nine games against the Giants.
Giants vs Yankees Head-to-Head
The teams haven’t met since 2019 when the Yankees swept a three-game series in San Francisco and outscored the Giants 24-12.
The last time the Giants and Yankees played in New York was in 2016 with the Yankees winning two of three games.
Each of the last three games between the teams finished over the total. The last five times the Giants played at the Yankees, the total went under.
