The New York Yankees wasted no time exerting their dominance over the San Francisco Giants and showing why they are a favorite bet online to win the World Series. Behind Gerritt Cole, the Yankees shut out the Giants 5-0 on Opening Day. Not surprisingly, the Bombers are favored on the MLB lines to go back-to-back to start the 2023 season.
Cobb: Plenty of Experience Against Yankees
Veteran right-hander Alex Cobb will make his 2023 debut for the San Francisco Giants on Saturday after a decent 2022 campaign. The former star for the Tampa Bay Rays went just 7-8, but his 3.73 ERA and 1.30 WHIP suggest he faced a bit of bad luck to end up with such a poor record. Cobb has faced the Yankees many times, primarily when playing in the American League East from 2011 to 2020. He had some success against the powerhouse lineup with an ERA of 3.21 in 112 innings against the Bombers.
Pitching may not be the issue for the Giants, however, as their offense was blanked on Thursday with just four hits against Cole. Thairo Estrada hit two hits while Michael Conforto and Roberto Perez had one. Schmidt is no Cole, but the offense looked weak, even against the Yankee relievers. Perhaps the Giants won’t be able to overcome the loss of Brandon Belt and his 32 home runs.
Schmidt: Sixth Start in Three Years
The name Clark Schmidt may not mean anything to you, even if you are a Yankee fan, but the right-hander shined enough in spring training to earn a spot on this rotation – at least for now. He finished 2022 with a 5-5 record, 3.12 ERA, and 1.20 WHIP in 57.2 innings. He averages over a strikeout per inning, and the Giants must practice patience with Schmidt on the bump.

It’s early in the season, but the Yankees’ bats already look like they are in midseason form. Aaron Judge wasted zero time and deposited the first home run into the bleachers on his first swing of the season. Meanwhile, new fan favorite Anthony Volpe went 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a pair of defensive gems.
The MLB odds favor the Yankees for the second straight game, though they will be without a star pitcher this time. Can the bats keep them afloat, or will the Giants get to Schmidt and even up this series?

Giants vs Yankees Head-to-Head
The Yankees have dominated the Giants so severely over the last few years that San Francisco has been winless since 2016. From a betting standpoint, the gap is even wider, with New York covering eight games in a row dating back to 2016. The last time the Giants beat New York on the MLB spreads line was in 2016. Based on this history, the Yankees are a very tempting bet on MLB for Saturday.

Giants vs Yankees Picks and Prediction
The Yankees showed on Opening Day that they were one of the teams to beat in the American League. Their pitching and hitting dominated the Giants, and my MLB picks predict a similar outcome on Saturday. I’m slightly less confident in Schmidt and Cole, but the lineup is full of killers and Cobb is in the crosshairs.
