Cleveland on Five-Game Winning Streak
The Cleveland Guardians go for a sixth straight win when they take on the host Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game series on Saturday night.
Cleveland has won 16 of 19 games and has an eight-game lead on the second-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
Texas had a two-game winning streak snapped with a loss in the series opener on Friday and is in fourth place in the AL West, a half-game behind the third-place Los Angeles Angels.
The Guardians are on a roll, but to be sure on your bet online on this one, read through our in-depth preview of the game first.
Young Players Helping Guardians To Wins
The Cleveland Guardians are getting contributions from nearly everyone on their roster these days, and Friday night was a perfect example. Pitcher Cody Morris picked up his first major league win in his fifth start in the majors and outfielder Will Brennan had two RBIs in his third career game at this level to help the Guardians to a 6-3 win over the Texas Rangers.
“That’s just contagious offense and that’s what we have here,” Brennan said after Friday’s win. “It’s so much fun. It’s a blast.”
The 24-year-old Brennan made his major league debut on Wednesday.
Right-hander Cal Quantrill will be on the mound. Quantrill is 13-5 with a 3.56 ERA in 29 starts, striking out 116 in 169⅓ innings. He got a win in his last start against the Minnesota Twins on Monday, going 5⅓ innings and allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking one. He’s 9-0 over his last 14 starts, with Cleveland winning 13 of those starts.
Rangers Trying To Stay Competitive
The Texas Rangers were playing competitively on Friday night, leading the Cleveland Guardians 2-1 before a five-run sixth inning by Cleveland ended up being the difference. Texas is just 32-43 at home this season.
Right-hander Glenn Otto will get the start. Otto is 6-9 with a 4.88 ERA in 24 starts in 2022, striking out 92 and walking 58 over 118 innings of work. He had a rough outing in his last start, lasting just 3⅓ innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday and allowing four runs on seven hits, including two home runs, while striking out three and walking none.
Newly-signed Kevin Plawecki had an RBI single in Friday’s loss, his debut with the Rangers. Plawecki was released by the Boston Red Sox last weekend and signed with Texas on Wednesday.
Guardians vs Rangers Head-To-Head
The Cleveland Guardians are looking for their fifth straight season series victory against the Texas Rangers as they enter Saturday’s contest with a 3-1 lead in 2022. Cleveland has won three of its last four series played against the Rangers in Texas, with the two teams tying in the fourth in 2019.
Cleveland hasn’t lost a series to Texas since dropping three of four on the road to the Rangers in 2016. The MLB lines set for Saturday’s contest are favoring Cleveland to come away with another win on the road.
