Both teams are slipping, especially the Guardians, and the American League Central is turning into a two-horse race between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox. Guardians Losing the Offense
The Cleveland Guardians have been watching their offensive performance regress and fall more toward where they were in the 2021 season. While they started the season off hot and one of the top offenses in the MLB in April, May has not been as good for the Guardians. They are still putting up runs, but the power has bee lacking. Luckily, their pitching has been holding tough, but without run support, that means little.
The Guardians are in third place in the AL Central, looking up at the White Sox and Twins. This offensive drop could be understood and manageable if the Guardians were dealing with injuries, but that is not the case.
This four-game series against the Tigers is a chance for the Guardian to turn things arounds. The Detroit Tigers have seemed to find a spark of energy here and a spark there, but nothing with any type of consistency. And to make things worse, they have really struggled against the AL Central-leading Twins. They managed to salvage at least one game and avoid a sweep at the hands of Minnesota on Wednesday.
The biggest question is whether they keep things moving forward and get themselves back into the division race? Or are they bound to the cellar for another year while they rebuild? It is the perfect time to make a statement that they are looking to compete.
