Guardians Battling for Division League

The Cleveland Guardians face the host Detroit Tigers in a day-night doubleheader to kick off a four-game series between American League Central  rivals on Monday. These two teams have gone back and forth this season, and who knows what kind of fireworks will happen on the Fourth of July. Mmake sure you read our in-depth preview of the second game of the doubleheader to help you with your bet online.

Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, MLB news injury reports and MLB odds for Guardians vs Tigers. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.

Guardians Gain Some Confidence

The Cleveland Guardians had dropped the first two games of their series with the New York Yankees, the team with the best record in baseball, allowing 19 runs in losing both easily. On Sunday, though, the Guardians shut out the Yankees behind a combined one-hitter to gain back some confidence.

“I don’t think any of us came into this game looking at the Yankees as the No. 1 team in baseball,” Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie said after Sunday’s win. “We came out here looking at them as a team we have to beat.”

Right-hander Cal Quantrill will try to provide more of that dominant pitching when he makes the start in the nightcap on Monday. Quantrill is 4-4 with a 3.72 ERA in 14 starts, striking out 51 in 84.2 innings. He took a no-decision in his last outing, going eight innings against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday and allowing three runs on eight hits, including two home runs, while striking out three and walking none.

Designated hitter Franmil Reyes provided the offense on Sunday, driving in both Cleveland runs with an RBI single and a solo home run. Reyes is batting .213 with five doubles, six home runs, 19 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Third baseman Jose Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a double on Sunday, though he struck out three times. Ramirez is batting .292 with 26 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, 63 RBIs (fourth in baseball) and 46 runs scored.

Tigers Struggling to Find Starters

The Detroit Tigers will have right-hander Garrett Hill – fresh from Triple-A Toledo – making his first major league start in the opener on Monday. Former first-round pick Alex Faedo will get the start in the nightcap. Injuries have forced the Tigers to bring up a number of young pitchers, and they may have to go with a bullpen game to close out the doubleheader.

Detroit has not been a prolific offensive team, ranking last in the majors in total runs with 231. The next-worst team on the list is Oakland with 255. The Tigers are also at the bottom of the list with only 46 home runs, with Oakland again the next in line with 56.

Shortstop Javier Baez had a rough weekend against the Kansas City Royals, going 1-for-11 with five strikeouts. Baez is batting .212 with 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored in his first season with the Tigers.

Designated hitter Miguel Cabrera comes into Monday’s action on a nine-game hitting streak, raising his batting average to .300. The 39-year-old has been productive at the plate, hitting seven doubles and three home runs, driving in 25 runs and scoring 16 times.

Guardians vs Tigers Head-To-Head

The Detroit Tigers have wib three of the first five matchups with the Cleveland Guardians this season. The Tigers are looking for their first season series victory over Cleveland since 2015.

The Tigers are 2-1 at home against the Guardians, which goes against a trend of Cleveland winning the majority of the games played in Detroit back dating back to the 2015 season.

Guardians vs Tigers Prediction

The Cleveland Guardians are fighting to get to the top spot in the AL Central and have much more talent both on the mound and at the plate than the Detroit Tigers. With Faedo winless in his last six starts, it’s best to plan on the Guardians to get the victory in Monday’s second game.

When making your MLB picks, take Cleveland to win on the road.
