Hit it Out of the Park: Your Can’t-Miss Opening Day Parlay Play

After what felt like years of waiting, the 2024 MLB season is finally here. Opening Day is Thursday, and what better way to celebrate than crafting a parlay to start the season with some extra scratch?

Sure, we could look at some MLB spreads today or money lines, totals, player props, YRFI, or other wagers. But isn’t it more fun to add several of these wager types to a single bet online? I thought so, and instead of a vanilla MLB picks piece to start the year, I wanted to begin with a bang and lay an Opening Day three-game parlay on you.

Hit it Out of the Park: Your Can't-Miss Opening Day Parlay Play

1. MLB Parlay Leg 1: Athletics +130 to Beat Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians will likely field a lineup with five left-handed hitters on Opening Day. Even considering the potential inclusion of two right-handed hitters from the bench, excluding backup catcher Austin Hedges, the disparity in skill levels between these bench players and the starters is notable. This setup suggests that Cleveland may continue to face challenges when up against left-handed pitchers.

Turning our attention to the Athletics, we see a lineup that could challenge the Guardians, especially with their top hitters potentially making an impact. The A’s lineup depth, extending from their core to the lower order, might exploit pitcher Shane Bieber’s ongoing decline.

An aspect working in the A’s favor is their discipline at the plate last season, marked by their ability to draw walks. Conversely, strikeouts have been their Achilles’ heel. Given Bieber’s recent trends of declining strikeout numbers and increasing walks allowed, the Athletics, bolstered by a pitcher like Wood, who is close to being effective, stand a good chance of securing a victory against the Guardians.

The safe bet would be to settle for an MLB run line pick on the A’s, but I have faith that the A’s will win this game as underdogs outright.

2. MLB Parlay Leg 2 Red Sox vs Mariners Over 7½ (-105)

As the first pitch for Opening Day approaches, the forecast in Seattle suggests a chilly and wet day. Temperatures will hover in the 50s, and rain is expected. This weather condition will likely lead to the stadium’s roof being closed, which favors hitters and could increase scoring.

The Mariners are positioned to capitalize on this environment, particularly against Bryan Bello’s pitching repertoire. Their batting stats show a notable advantage against his three primary pitches, and their ability to hit line drives and fly balls could prove even more beneficial under the closed roof.

On the other side, the Boston Red Sox bring their own offensive strengths to the game. Despite facing Luis Castillo, a formidable opponent, the Red Sox lineup is considered above average. It is well-equipped to exploit the matchup advantages, especially given their success against right-handed pitchers.

This combination of factors suggests an intriguing game ahead. Both teams are likely to find opportunities to score under the unique conditions of a closed-roof game in Seattle. Based on this information, my MLB pick for this game is for it to go Over 7½ runs.

3. MLB Parlay Leg 3: Cubs vs Rangers NRFI (-130)

The opening day of the Major League Baseball season is set to be a spectacle in Arlington, Texas, as the Texas Rangers welcome the Chicago Cubs, a team expected to do big things in 2024.

Nathan Eovaldi, a consistent and reliable force in the Rangers’ pitching lineup, will take the mound with impressive stats from the last season, including a 3.63 ERA, a batting average against of .238, and a weighted on-base average (wOBA) of .296. Eovaldi’s performance shines bright under pressure, a testament to his resilience and skill. His control over the game is evident, as he ranks in the top 5% for limiting walks among all pitchers over four of the past six seasons. Facing Eovaldi, the Cubs’ batters may find it challenging to gain early momentum.

Contrastingly, the Cubs’ pitcher, Justin Steele, has earned my trust for his ability to keep the ball on the ground, minimize walks, and elicit feeble hits from his adversaries, holding an exemplary career expected batting average (xBA) of .240 and an expected weighted on-base average (xWOBA) of .295 over three seasons. Steele’s prowess will be crucial in handling the Rangers’ potent lineup, especially the left-handed hitters like Corey Seager and Evan Carter, as he aims to navigate through the initial inning without trouble. It’s a prime opportunity to bet online for no runs in the first inning (NRFI) with these two on the hill.
