Astros Visit AL West Rival Seattle

Key Series for Mariners in Bid to Stay in Wild Card Hunt

The Seattle Mariners will play host to the Houston Astros on Monday night to begin a very important series in the American League West. Houston currently leads the division and should be a playoff team while the Mainers are hoping to sneak into a Wild Card spot.

The Houston Astros nearly swept the Mariners just one week ago, but Seattle won the series finale. Seattle can’t afford a similar result this weekend, and will hope playing at home provides an advantage.

In the last matchup between the two teams, Seattle manager Scott Servais said, “That was a fun ball game to win.” Seattle is 70-61 and Houston is 77-53, but the home team can close the gap a bit in this series.

The MLB odds at BetUS sportsbook have the Houston Astros at -165 over the Seattle Mariners (+145) in the series opener.

Astros Scoring Some Runs

Houston has nearly scored 700 runs and sports a .268 batting average as a team. This offense has the ability to take off in a hurry and is going to be a problem for the Mariners pitching staff.

Yordan Alvarez leads the team with 28 home runs and 88 RBIs, and he will have Seattle’s full attention. Michael Brantley has been setting the table for the Astros with a .317 batting average.

Luis Garcia might not be a big name in the American League, but the starter has been pitching well for the Astros. He 10-6 with a 3.21 ERA and he has the stuff to shut down the Mariners.

Mariners Need Flexen to Deliver

Seattle will be sending Chris Flexen to the mound. Flexen is 11-5 with a 3.54 ERA and he has plenty of experience in dealing with the Astros.

The bullpen has been a bit leaky at times and holding on to a lead is sometimes an issue for the Mariners. Seattle did pitch well in the most recent series against Kansas City and that trend will need to continue.

Offense has been a big problem for the Mariners, who are hitting just .223. This team does have plenty of power with 163 home runs, which is just six less than the Astros.

Kyle Seager leads the Mariners with 31 home runs and 85 RBIs and he will need to have a big series.

Mariners Cool Off Astros

This should be a terrific pitching matchup on Monday night, and that is going to affect the scores and MLB odds for the AL West showdown. Houston clearly has the edge when it comes to offense, but Seattle is a much better team at home.

The Mariners are the much more desperate team and they can’t afford to waste an outing from one of their top starting pitchers. Look for Seattle to have a great performance as it finds a way to begin this series with a win.

If you are into making MLB picks, sticking with the home team is the right play in this game. Seattle does just enough to sneak by the Houston Astros, and taking them at +145 on the moneyline is the right pick.

Seattle Wins Series

Along with betting on each game of this series, you can also find series prices available at BetUS Sportsbook. The MLB lines for this series have the Astros as the favorites at -190 and the Mariners at +155.

Houston won the previous series between the teams and was just one win away from a sweep. Seattle has had trouble beating the Astros in the past, but this is a team that continues to be a real threat to win a Wild Card spot.

Seattle looks to have an edge in the starting pitching matchup for the series opener and that will give it some momentum the rest of the week. Getting the Houston Astros out is going to be a challenge for this pitching staff, but the Mariners will get the job done.

Bet the Seattle Mariners +155 as they win this series over the Houston Astros, starting with a victory on Monday night.

Pick: Seattle Mariners +145
