Kyle Schwarber may not be known for his consistency, but he’s currently riding a wave to which bettors should pay attention. Hitting .370 over the last week with four home runs, two doubles, and five walks, Schwarber is primed to go over 1.5 hits.

Meanwhile, Andrew Abbott’s recent performances have been less than stellar. With a 6.39 ERA this month and a tendency to give up home runs and walks, betting on him to go over his projected earned run total against the powerful Red Sox lineup is a smart move.

Today’s 2 Best MLB Parlay Picks

Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber 2+ Hits

I love what Schwarber brings as a hitter, but I understand why bettors don’t trust him to rack up hits consistently. He’s a power specialist who strikes out a lot and has a career 229 average. Despite his poor batting average, every once in a while, the star aligns for power hitters, and they put the ball in play much more than usual.

Schwarzer is in the middle of such a breakout and .370 over the last seven days, with four home runs, two doubles, and five walks. It’s not last forever, but while the big man is hot, I will jump all over the MLB odds on him to go over 1.5 Hits.

Jordan Montgomery gets the nod for the Diamondbacks, and he couldn’t be a better fade against Schwarber. Seriously. It’s the perfect matchup for us to cash in.

Schwarber’s career hitting stats are bogged down by his inability to hit RHP, who has a .196 AVG  this season against righties. But against LHP, Schwarber is tearing the cover off the ball with a .339 AVG in 109 at-bats.

Montgomery, meanwhile, is having a rough year, and it’s not getting any better with a busted 6.39 ERA in three starts this month. He had his first good game in over a month last week, but it was against the White Sox, so it barely counts.

Reds SP Andrew Abbott 2+ Earned Runs

Andrew Abbott has had a bit of a rollercoaster season, and a bet online on him to go over his projected earned run total on Friday against the Boston Red Sox is a solid move.

Last week, Abbott was among the league’s worst pitchers with a five-inning disaster against the Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed three earned runs on four hits, including one long ball. He struck out and walked three batters. Not a great K/BB ratio, and it’s not the first time he’s struggled in that area.

Two games back, Abbott walked four hitters but was spared getting lit up. But the baseball gods will punish him if he continues to walk batters at such a high rate.

His tendency to give up the long ball (13 homers in 79 innings) and a knack for free passes (about 2.85 walks per 9 innings) don’t exactly scream “shutout” material.

Facing a potent Red Sox lineup doesn’t help his case, either. Boston’s bats, featuring sluggers like Rafael Devers and Tyler O’Neill, will likely capitalize on Abbott’s control issues and home run susceptibility.

So, if you’re considering placing a bet on Abbott giving up some runs, the stats and his recent form seem to back you up. Betting on him to go over his projected earned run total is the way to go.
