MLS Western Conference First Place at Stake
Despite losing their last game, Los Angeles FC managed to remain atop the Western Conference. That could change Wednesday if the Black and Gold don’t defeat Austin FC. Besides Austin, FC Dallas could also supplant LAFC in first place with a probable win against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
According to the soccer odds, LAFC (-190) shouldn’t have too much trouble winning. We’re not so sure about that. What we’re sure of is that we’ll see a fast-paced duel with the two top-scoring teams in the league.
Los Angeles FC Impressive Streak
First of all, Los Angeles FC remain unbeaten at Banc of California Stadium with a 4-2-0 record. The Black and Gold outscored their opponents, 14-5. That should justify LAFC favoritism, but there’s more.
Second, the Black and Gold have scored in their last 31 home games. That’s the longest active streak in MLS. Also, 13 different players have scored this season, with Carlos Vela’s four leading the way. So don’t tell us that’s not sufficient to consider including LAFC in your soccer picks.
Their last home game was against the Portland Timbers for the Round of 32 of the U.S. Open Cup. LAFC were 2-0 winners, with goals from Cristian Arango and Mamadou Mbacke. That was also the third time the Black and Gold finished a home game without allowing a goal.
They lost. 2-0. to the Colorado Rapids in the MLS last fixture. Both goals were from the penalty spot. Believe it or not, that was the first time LAFC conceded a penalty since later October. That’s even further proof we’re talking about a very disciplined team.
The home side’s injury list is extensive, as Brian Rodriguez, Ismael Tajouri, Erik Duenas, Julian Gaines and Eddie Segura are out. The good news is that Franco Escobar, Doneil Henry and Jesus Murillo are expected to return.
Austin FC Dynamic Duo
Like Los Angeles FC, Austin FC have scored 23 goals in 11 games. Sebastian Driussi scored seven of those goals. Only Jesus Ferreira from FC Dallas has scored more with nine. Diego Fagundez is also having a great season, leading the league in assists with seven.
Austin also lost in their last game, 2-1, to Real Salt Lake. Daniel Pereira getting a red card two minutes into the second half didn’t help. Austin’s lone goal was from Alexander Ring, as Andrew Brody scored the winner with two minutes left.
That was Austin’s second loss when playing on the road (2-1-2). They’ve allowed nine goals and scored eight. They failed to score only once, against the Portland Timbers in a 1-0 shutout. Even so, Austin is offering a +500 price in the sportsbook. That’s kind of disrespectful. Overall, Austin has allowed less goals than LAFC.
Last, but not least, Josh Wolff, the team’s head coach, received a multi-year extension. That’s an extra dose of confidence and motivation.
“My staff and I will keep working every day to represent the city, and to develop our team both competitively and as human beings. The best is yet to come,” Wolff said.
What better to celebrate than beating LAFC, right?

Los Angeles FC vs Austin FC Prediction

In fact, Austin only have two victories in the last 19 road matches (2-3-14), and hasn’t managed a clean sheet in the last 15. We’re set for a goal-fest. It ends in a draw, precisely our betting online prediction.
