Mariners-Reds Raking to Over Among Top Bets
The Cincinnati Reds (73-68) are looking to complete the series sweep against the Seattle Mariners (77-61). With a 5-1 deficit in Game 2, the Reds rallied to victory. Pinch hitter Nick Martini hit a crucial three-run home run in the eighth inning to knot the score at six. Then, first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand walked it off with a single in the 7-6 win.
Hopefully, Seattle and Cincinnati deliver another thrilling finish in the series finale. Following Tuesday’s game, the Mariners are one game back from the divisional lead in the American League West, and the Reds have a half-game lead for the final wild-card spot. MLB odds have tabbed Cincy as the underdog for the third consecutive game in the series. Check out our best bets for Game 3.

Mariners vs Reds Betting Lines
Starting Pitchers
Logan Gilbert (12-5, 3.56 ERA) vs Lyon Richardson (0-1, 6.75)
Seattle’s rotation is full of quality starters. Not a surprise for a team that ranks third in allowed runs per game. Logan Gilbert will be the next starter to take the bump. The third-year righty is enjoying another impressive season, led by his career-best 1.045 WHIP. Gilbert has turned it up a notch since August with a 2.68 ERA over six starts. He has pitched for at least six innings in three consecutive appearances and has allowed only four runs during the span.
The Reds remain in a desperate pitching situation. Somehow, they have managed to win four of their last five games. Cincinnati is pulling another pitcher from the minors. This time it’s Lyon Richardson.
He has only three career starts in the majors. Richardson showed some improvement in his most recent start on Sept. 1. He allowed only two hits, but walks were a major problem. Richardson surrendered five walks and was pulled in the fifth inning. The over could be an intriguing MLB picks with Richardson pitching.
Double-Digit Total No Problem?
Opponents are hitting only .222 against Richardson. However, the walks are a big problem that the Mariners will likely take advantage of. Seattle ranks eighth in walks per game and averaged about 3.7 walks over its last three games. For reference, 3.7 walks per game would rank third in the MLB.
The Mariners were also teeing off in Game 2. They launched three big flies, two came from center fielder Julio Rodriguez. Seattle’s slugging seems to be back to form. The batting order is averaging 2.5 homers over its previous four games.

The sportsbook has the projected total at 10½. Don’t be spooked by this high number, though. The over hit on Tuesday with a total of 10. After going under in seven consecutive games, the over is 2-1 in the Reds’ last three. The lengthy under streak could finally be finished.
Cincinnati also has a prime opportunity for smacking long balls in Game 3. Gilbert has been excellent, for the most part. But he has allowed seven homers in his last six starts and four in the previous four. The Reds are averaging 2.3 big flies in their previous three games.
- Pick: Over 10 (+105)
Run Line Offers More Enticing Odds
MLB lines have the Mariners priced at -165 on the moneyline. Look for Seattle to avoid the sweep with a win in Game 3. It should get on base often against Richardson. Plus, the Mariners should see relievers early, and Cincinnati’s bullpen ranks in the bottom half of ERA.
While Gilbert has allowed homers, we can’t ignore the run outputs. He has surrendered two runs or less in four of his last five starts. Riding the run line could be the way to go.
Over Gilbert’s previous eight starts, Seattle is 6-2 against the run line.
