Mariners In Houston and Out for Revenge

Houston went into Seattle right after the break, promptly disposing of the Mariners’ 14-game win streak with a three-game series sweep To its credit, Seattle then turned around and took three from the visiting Texas Rangers.

Houston has gone cold, however, a five-game winning streak giving way to a trio of inexplicable losses to the last-place Athletics in Oakland. It was the first time with a sweep/being swept for the respective sides this season.

Can Seattle finally take down the Astros or will Houston prove to be their kryptonite once more?

Check the latest MLB news, stats, injury reports and MLB odds for Mariners vs Astros. There are plenty of MLB picks & predictions.

Gilbert Gets The Ball

Righthander Logan Gilbert will be tasked with stumping the Houston Astros Thursday. He will be facing an offense that’s cooled off a lot of late. Over the last week, Alex Bregman is batting .241, Yuli Guriel is at .217 and Kyle Tucker is at .192.

Gilbert is 10-4 on the year with a healthy 2.77 ERA, 16th-best in MLB rankings. The last start for him was against Houston, Gilbert losing despite pitching six innings and surrendering just two runs.

In two other starts against Houston, both Seattle wins, he surrendered just three runs in a combined 13 innings.

This order bats just .232 against Gilbert, but Bregman and Jose Altuve have thrived, batting .429 or better against him. If he can work around these two hitters, that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Urquidy As Mound Opponent

Righthander Jose Urquidy steps onto the mound for the Astros, and if you’re eyeing the MLB odds, know that he is 9-4 on the year with a 3.93 ERA.

The Astros have won three of his last four, including a 5-2 decision over the Seattle Mariners. He went six strong innings in that one, having surrendered just one run.

Urquidy is 3-2 with a 2.63 ERA at home, 6-2 (4.83 ERA) on the road.

Note the Mariners bat .322 against him. Ty France, Julio Rodriguez, Adam Frazier, Kyle Lewis and Eugenio Suarez all hit .300 or better. France has three home runs in just 21 at-bats against Urquidy.

Mariners vs. Astros Head-to-Head

The Mariners and Astros have faced off 15 times this season, with the Astros winning nine of those games.

Mariners vs Astros Prediction

Houston has won three straight against the Mariners, at a time Seattle was at its hottest. However, the Mariners aren’t an easy team to take out, and will be looking for revenge a

Gilbert has pitched three strong games against the Astros-winning two of them-while Urquidy has generally been solid.

It’s a tough game to bet, but go with the current trends and look for the Mariners to eke one out on the road.
