Mariners vs Giants: Spring Training Matchup Of West Coast Squads

MLB Betting Preview

We are just a few weeks away from the beginning of the 2021 Major League Baseball season, and spring training action is starting to heat up. The San Francisco Giants will host the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night in a matchup of two teams looking for bounce-back seasons in 2021.

We have reached the point in spring training when you should start to see more regular players on the field. Managers want to get a good look at their potential lineups, and some of the best arms in each camp will get more active as well.

Seattle comes into this game with a 5-7 record, and it has also played to five ties this spring. The Mariners are not expected to be a playoff contender in the American League West, but there is some interesting young talent on the roster.

San Francisco has won four of its last six games, and the Giants look like they could compete in the National League West. That will be one of the toughest divisions in baseball in 2021, but San Francisco could have a terrific pitching staff.

The MLB odds for this contest have the San Francisco moneyline at -120, while Seattle is at -110. You can grab the Giants in our online sportsbook.

Mariners Looking For More Power

The Mariners are hitting .348 so far this spring, but they are just right around the league average when it comes to runs scored. Seattle has done a nice job of getting players on base, but it has really struggled to drive those runners in.

Third baseman Ty France leads the Mariners with four home runs, and he could be looking at a breakout season for Seattle. First baseman Evan White has knocked in 11 runs, and he is another young talent on this roster.

Right-hander Justin Dunn is expected to make the start for the Mariners, and he will be looking to make an impression on the coaching staff. Seattle does have some holes in its rotation, and that will be one area that needs to be cleaned up before the start of the regular season.

DeSclafani Takes Ball For Giants

San Francisco will be sending Anthony DeSclafani to the mound on Thursday night, and he figures to be a large part of the Giants’ success. DeSclafani has already picked up a spring training win, and he could have his way with this weak Mariners lineup.

Third baseman Evan Longoria looks ready to begin the regular season, leading the Giants with three home runs and nine runs batted in this spring. San Francisco actually leads all of baseball with a .372 on-base percentage, and that could be a sign of things to come when the real games begin.

San Francisco Takes Control

Even though this game has no impact on the 2021 MLB regular season, now is the time that teams start to look at building momentum heading into the season opener. Regular players are starting to see more playing time, and you will see pitchers go deeper into the game.

The Giants have a clear edge in the starting pitching matchup, as DeSclafani is expected to be a key contributor for San Francisco this season. Seattle is hoping to use a number of pitchers to get through this game, but it has a lot of holes on its pitching staff.

San Francisco could be one of the surprise teams in the National League West, especially if it hits the ball well. Seattle has been a solid offensive team this spring, but it just doesn’t have enough power to score runs.

Look for San Francisco to take control of this game early behind a strong outing from DeSclafani. The Giants pick up a win over a Seattle team that is still searching for an identity.
