Mariners Go for 13 in a Row

The online sports betting community is understandably surprised to see the Seattle Mariners rip off a 12-game winning streak.

Now, the M’s will go for 13 in a row in a Saturday matchup against the Texas Rangers, who have fallen further outside the playoff race thanks to a difficult July.

Mariners’ Playoff Drought in Jeopardy

About a month ago, the Seattle Mariners were 29-39 and on a collision course to another year with no playoffs. But since their infamous brawl against the Los Angeles Angels on June 26, Seattle is 15-3 and in the midst of a 12-game win streak.

Suddenly, the Mariners’ MLB playoff odds are skyrocketing as they enter the day in possession of the second Wild Card spot.

This winning streak isn’t necessarily a product of an explosive offense. Seattle still ranks 22nd in runs and 24th in batting average over the course of the season.

However, the M’s haven’t allowed more than five runs in any game throughout their win streak. As a result, their ERA and WHIP now rank fifth and seventh, respectively.

Logan Gilbert, one of Seattle’s promising pitchers, is starting. The big righty is 10-3 with a 2.80 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 100 strikeouts in 106.0 innings.

Rangers Aim to Get Back on the Horse

For a while, it seemed like the Texas Rangers would be able to overcome their 6-14 start after nearly clawing back to .500 last month. However, a 5-9 record in July has pushed Texas further back, especially with the Seattle Mariners’ win streak going on in the same span.

Despite their pedestrian record, the Rangers rank a solid 14th in runs and 19th in batting average. The pitching staff, however, is a different story. Texas sits 22nd in ERA and 21st in WHIP, which has undoubtedly been affected by the Rangers giving up six runs or more in eight of their last 11 contests.

Spencer Howard will be tasked with snapping Seattle’s streak. Howard recently returned to action following a two-month absence and carries an 8.04 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 15.2 innings.

Mariners vs Rangers Head-to-Head

Even before their win streak began, the Seattle Mariners dominated the Texas Rangers in 2022. Seattle was 4-2 against Texas before winning the first two games of this series.

The Mariners beating the Rangers is nothing new for MLB picks experts. Seattle has won four of the last five season series against its division foe and has gone 27-10 against them since the start of 2020.

Mariners vs Rangers Prediction

The Seattle Mariners are the hottest team in baseball and have the superior pitcher on the bump. Yet the MLB lines only have them pegged at -145 on the Moneyline, while the Texas Rangers are +130.

One possible explanation could be the difference in run-line performance. Even though Seattle is now seven games over .500, it’s just 14-24 in covering as run line favorites. Meanwhile, Texas is a scrappy 37-18 as run line underdogs.

Of course, that doesn’t take recent play much into account. The Mariners are shutting down all of their recent opponents, while the Rangers can’t shut down any lineup they face.

If the Moneyline was much higher than -140, we’d be wary of betting the Mariners straight up. But if you encounter that number or anything smaller when betting online, take the M’s to keep the winning streak alive.
