Bombs Away: That Ball is Gone!
The Seattle Mariners will look to rebound after losing big on Monday against the New York Yankees, who put on a home run derby to improve their MLB-best record to 70-34.
Read on to find out how pitching can benefit Seattle, helping the Mariners (55-49, 52-52 ATS) to possibly pull off an upset against the Yankees (51-53 ATS), increasing their MLB playoff odds and continuing a strong playoff push.
Mariners Send Out Gilbert
The Seattle Mariners will happily welcome Logan Gilbert to the mound as their starting pitcher for Tuesday’s contest against the New York Yankees. Gilbert is 10-4 with a 2.78 ERA in 21 starts.
Away from home, the Mariners’ ace has been nothing short of phenomenal, going 6-1 in 12 road starts with a 2.47 ERA. As an underdog, he is 6-2 with a money line return of 36.909 percent, including a 54.517% road return on investment.
Gilbert will hope to get a little more run support from his offense, which managed to produce just two runs on Monday night against the Yankees and Domingo German, who probably won’t even be in the starting rotation after their latest pitching acquisitions.
Eugenio Suarez will also have to do better than 1-for-4 with no RBIs. Seattle’s offense is in a slump, and with Ty France and Julio Rodriguez out of the lineup, Suarez will have to step up big time.
Yankees Play Long Ball
Aaron Judge hit another one out of the park, boosting his league-leading home run total to 43 and his candidacy for AL MVP. Jose Trevino stole the show, hitting two home runs — the first multi-home run game of his career — to help the New York Yankees cruise to victory.
Jameson Taillon will start behind the mound for New York. Taillon has a 10-2 record in 20 starts with a 3.72 ERA. Taillon is 6-1 (3.16 ERA) at Yankee Stadium, with New York winning 9 of his 11 home starts.
Mariners vs Yankees Head-to-Head
Monday was the first matchup between the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees. In typical Yankee fashion, The Bronx Bombers hammered four balls out of the park en route to a 7-2 victory, covering the spread as heavy favorites.

Mariners vs Yankees Prediction
The moneyline play on the Seattle Mariners is too short for me. To consider a dog play on the Mariners, I would need +160 odds or longer. MLB lines vary among the many online sportsbooks.
If you are going to make a play on the Mariners, I’d do it sooner rather than later. Don’t be surprised to see this line get bet all the way down to Mariners +125.
Taillon has been a little shaky his last few starts. He has an ERA of 5.36 in his last 10 starts. He’s really been helped out by going up against some below-average pitching and receiving ample run support. Taillon’s 10.9% HR/FB rate is very alarming, especially considering his 35.5 hard hit%.
