Slumping Marlins Look for Road Win vs Diamondbacks

Arizona Tries to Move Up in Deep NL West

The Arizona Diamondbacks go for a third straight win when they host the Miami Marlins in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday night. Arizona took the opener on Monday night and they are in fifth place in the NL West standings, just a half-game behind the fourth-place Colorado Rockies.

Miami has dropped two in a row and eight of nine but still sits in a tie for third place in the NL East with the Philadelphia Phillies, with the second-place Atlanta Braves just a half-game ahead. These two teams are headed in opposite directions, but anything could happen in this one, so make sure to read our in-depth preview of the contest before you make any bet online.

Let’s check the latest  MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Marlins vs Diamondbacks. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.

Marlins Need to Break Out of Their Rut

The Miami Marlins looked like they would be challenging the New York Mets for NL East supremacy this season, but they’ve fallen way off over the last couple of weeks. Miami is struggling to put runs on the board during its cold streak, averaging just 2.0 runs over its last four losses.

Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been the most consistent batter for the Marlins, hitting .300 on the season, though he had his 11-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-3 performance on Monday night. Chisholm has six doubles, three triples, five home runs, 21 RBIs, and 16 runs scored this season.

Outfielder Jorge Soler has been very inconsistent at the plate, batting just .174. He does have five doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs, and eight runs scored, but the Marlins need more from him.

Left-hander Jesus Luzardo will get the start for Tuesday’s contest. The 24-year-old is 2-2 with a 3.08 ERA in five starts, striking out 35 over 26⅓ innings. Luzardo took the loss against the San Diego Padres in his last start on Thursday, going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits, including two solo home runs, while striking out seven and walking three.

Diamondbacks Getting More From Marte

The Arizona Diamondbacks are putting together a solid team, but they could be even better if Ketel Marte is able to play up to his standards. The All-Star second baseman has gotten off to a slow start this season, but he had a solo home run and showed his defense by starting the game-ending double play in Monday’s win.

“I enjoy watching Ketel play — his confidence is unmatched,” Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker said after Monday’s win. “That’s something that I really try to learn from. He’s a great player. It’s not a matter of if he’ll figure it out, it’s a matter of when. We’ve seen him do it day in and day out. It’s good to see him get his swagger back, his confidence back and we can all feed off that.”

Marte is batting just .217 on the season but has come alive recently, putting together a nine-game hitting streak and batting .458 in May. Marte has 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs, eight RBIs, and 11 runs scored.

Outfielder Daulton Varsho has been a driving force for the Diamondbacks, leading the team with 14 RBIs. Varsho is batting .255 with five doubles, six home runs, and 15 runs scored.

Tuesday will be the first start for veteran left-hander Madison Bumgarner since he was ejected after one inning following a dust-up with an umpire during a foreign substance check. Bumgarner is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in six starts, allowing just four earned runs all season.

Marlins vs Diamondbacks Head-to-Head

The Arizona Diamondbacks have now won their first four meetings with the Miami Marlins this season, clinching a season series win, which is the complete opposite of last season’s results. Miami took five of seven meetings in 2021, splitting four games at Chase Field.

This is Arizona’s first season series win since the 2018 campaign (the two teams didn’t play each other in 2020) when it won six of seven matchups, however, theMLB lines are favoring the Marlins to finally get a win in this series on Tuesday.

Marlins vs Diamondbacks Prediction

The Miami Marlins are having their troubles offensively, and now they take on a veteran hurler in Bumgarner who has been very good this season. Look for the Arizona Diamondbacks to continue their winning trend with a victory in this contest.
