A series between the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers feels like one of the “buy games” early in the college football and college basketball seasons when a title contender schedules what figures to be an easy win. The Dodgers are the heavy favorites to add to visiting Miami’s early-season misery.

The Dodgers won five of the six meetings with the Marlins a season ago and outscored Miami 54-25. Will it be more of the same in Monday’s series opener?

The MLB betting line has Los Angeles at -135 on the -1.5 run line compared to +115 odds for the Marlins to cover as 1.5-run underdogs.

The MLB futures betting odds have the Dodgers (+265) with the shortest odds of winning the World Series. Miami comes in at +50000 in the championship odds.

Marlins vs Dodgers Prediction Today, April 28, 2025

My prediction

  • Los Angeles Dodgers to Cover (-1½)

It is pretty hard to pick against a Dodgers team that can become the first National League team with a lucky 13 wins at home.

The last time the teams met, the Dodgers rolled to a 20-4 victory. I don’t expect a similar score on Monday, but I’ll take the Dodgers to win when making MLB picks.

Bet on Dodgers -1½ Runline (-135)

  • Marlins vs Dodgers Over 8.5 Runs

Eight of the last nine games between the Marlins and the Dodgers finished over the total. This season, the Marlins have the worst ERA in the majors on the road. Opponents have scored 70 runs in 11 away matchups played by the Marlins. Now, Miami faces perhaps the best batting lineup in baseball. That is one of the reasons to go with the game going over 8.5 runs when making MLB predictions.

Bet on Marlins vs Dodgers Over 8.5 Runs

Marlins vs Dodgers Prop Picks and Best Bets

  • Shohei Ohtani 2+ Total Bases (+112)

It would be quite the understatement to suggest that reigning National League Most Valuable Player Shohei Ohtani enjoyed hitting against Miami pitchers in 2024. He made MLB news when he hit .400 with two doubles, five home runs, seven runs and 14 RBIs in six games against Miami last season.

Ohtani is 5-for-9 with three runs and four extra-base hits in his last two games.

Take a look at the +112 odds for Ohtani to have 2+ total bases from hits when making MLB player prop picks today.

Bet on Shohei Ohtani to have 2+ Total Bases (+112)

  • Connor Norby to Have 1+ Runs + RBIs (+146)

Connor Norby had two extra-base hits (both doubles) in his first eight games of the season. He matched that with a double and a home run in Sunday’s loss to Seattle.

He was 4-for-10 in three games against the Dodgers in 2024.

Bet on Connor Norby to have 1+ Runs + RBIs (+146)

  • YRFI (-107)

Dodgers starter Dustin May has allowed six hits and five runs in the first inning in his first four starts. In Edward Cabrera’s first three starts, opponents had three hits (with a homer) and two runs in the opening inning.

The Dodgers lead the majors with 28 runs scored in the first inning this season. The Marlins are one of seven teams with an ERA of 6.00 or higher in the first inning. Keep that in mind when making MLB picks.

Bet on Score on First Inning – YES (-107)
