NL East Foes Resume Series

Phillies 9-1 in Last 10

The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies played a close one on Monday night where the pitching was great in the low-scoring game. The Phillies managed to walk it off in the ninth inning, but the Marlins played well despite the loss. The big blow came from Rhys Hoskins with the walk-off double in the ninth to give Philadelphia its ninth win in 10 games. The teams will be back at it on Tuesday night for game two.

Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Marlins vs Phillies. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.

Bullpen Falters for Marlins

The Miami Marlins played extremely well on Monday night. Sandy Alcantara continued his hot streak by surrendering two runs over 7.2 innings pitched, keeping the hot Phillies offense at bay. Unfortunately for Alcantara and the Marlins, the bullpen was unable to secure the win as the Phillies walked it off in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The high spots for the Marlins offensively were doubles by Jon Berti and two doubles by Miguel Rojas. Outside of that, the offense just couldn’t get much going with only six hits in the entire game. To their credit, they kept the pressure on and were ahead going into the eighth inning. They also covered the runline, which they have been doing exceptionally well with considering their overall losing record.

Now the Marlins must shake off the loss and get back to work on Tuesday where they will send lefty Trevor Rogers to the mound. Rogers has had some struggles and will need to turn in a good performance against the hot Phillies lineup.

Phillies Walk It Off In Ninth

The Philadelphia Phillies struggled to put runs up on Monday night, but they stayed persistent, finally scoring in the late innings. Rhys Hoskins doubled in the game winning run to walk it off for the Phillies. His teammates rewarded him with an ice water shower during his post-game interview.

Now the Phillies will get a chance to face a pitcher that they can really let their bats eat against on Tuesday night. The surging Phillies are attempting to keep up with the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets in the National League East.

The Phillies will send right hander Zach Eflin to the mound on Tuesday night. And although his win-loss record is less than stellar, his 3.76 ERA and 47 strikeouts makes him a very capable starter, especially against the average offensive output of the Marlins.

Marlins vs Phillies Head-to-Head

The Phillies will look to even the season series against the Marlins on Tuesday night. They trail 3-2 after a slow start to the season. But every one of these wins is vitally important for the Phillies in their attempt to stay in the race for the NL East title. The Marlins are looking to keep their head above water instead of slipping further behind in the NL East.

Marlins vs Phillies Prediction

The scorebooks are once again favorites at -140 on the moneyline. They are more heavily favored in this game due to the pitching matchups. The Phillies should have an easier time scoring runs than they did on Monday night. The Marlins are the +125 underdog, but this is not a smart bet at this point with how hot the Phillies are and the added fuel from Monday’s walk-off.

The MLB lines do have the runline for the Phillies at +145 and with the pitching matchups and their offense firing on all cylinders, this is a strong position with Philadelphia 32-28 against the runline.

When you bet online, take the Phillies to cover the -1½ runline at +145.
