Picks, Prediction for Marlins vs Rockies on Monday, May 22

Both Teams Coming Off Series Loss

After losing their last series, the Miami Marlins will travel to start one against the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Neither team has been great for MLB betting with the Rockies getting swept in their last series with the pitching struggling. The Rockies gave up 31 runs, only scoring 10, through three games.

The Marlins lost two of three in their last series. However, that should not change the MLB odds too much, with that lone win being 1-0.

Marlins Had Been Hot

Heading into its previous series, the Miami Marlins had won four straight games but were cooled off by the San Francisco Giants. In the first game, the Marlins gave up all of the Giants’ four runs in one inning, which was enough to lose 4-3. It only took one run to win Game 2, but Miami’s solid pitching staff struggled in Game 3 to lose 7-5.

The one good note from the series for the Marlins, and making MLB news is Jorge Soler, who seems to be getting hot. He had three RBIs in Game 3 with a homer, his 12th of the season. Over the last seven games, he has seven RBIs with three homers.

Rockies Struggled in Last Series

Nothing went right in the Colorado Rockies’ last series against the Texas Rangers. They lost the first game 7-2, which was perhaps the best performance for the pitching staff in the series. The next game ended 11-5, and then, to complete the sweep, Colorado lost 13-3.

The Rockies are already in last place in the National League West, but their record could still get worse if they keep playing like this. MLB lines had started to trend in the Rockies’ direction after a series win over the Cincinnati Reds, but that seems to be going away now.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Edward Cabrera (3-3, 5.13 ERA) vs Chase Anderson (0-0, 0.00)

The Marlins will have Edward Cabrera taking the mound, which should affect MLB spreads. He has been far from being the most reliable starting pitcher in Miami’s rotation, with the highest ERA at 5.13. It worsened in May with a 6.08 ERA. In the previous outing, Cabrera looked solid by going five innings, allowing only two runs, before having to leave the mound early with a blister.

On the other hand, this will only be Chase Anderson’s second start for the Rockies. He was a reliever for the Tampa Bay Rays before they DFA’d him. In his one start for Colorado, Anderson was solid, going five innings, allowing one hit and no runs with three strikeouts.

Marlins vs Rockies Head-to-Head

Last season, Miami had a clear advantage, winning five of seven games against Colorado. Most of the games were tight, with the underdog covering the spread six times.

Marlins vs Rockies Betting Lines

Over/Under Pick

Neither team has a great offense, which makes going with the under for over/under MLB picks a solid option. On top of that, they each have two of the highest percentages of hitting the under. The Rockies are ranked third at 57.5%, and the Marlins fourth at 55.6%.

Pick: Under 11½ (-120)

Moneyline Pick

This is a challenging game to pick a winner for. While the Marlins have their worst pitcher on the mound, the Rockies are putting out one that has not been with the team too long. The pitching matchup becomes more crucial than usual when you see how little these two offenses do. However, the Marlins have had more consistent success and should find a way to win this game.

Pick: Marlins -120
