Mets, Brewers Burning Rubber In Playoff Races
On Monday night, the New York Mets clinched a spot in the Major League Baseball postseason with a win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now, they turn their focus to a tight division race while the Brewers continue to fight for a National League Wild Card spot. In a game where the MLB lines are virtually even, a win would be significant for either team as the race to the playoffs enters the final stretch.
Mets Holding on for Dear Life in NL East
On Monday, the New York Mets enjoyed several positives all in one night. They clinched a spot in the playoffs with a win over the Milwaukee Brewers, but it was how they did so that was the best part for the team.
New York got pitcher Max Scherzer back and he made an immediate impact by throwing six perfect innings before being pulled out of the game.
“We have a lot of things in front of us and we understand that. But, man, you’ve got to celebrate the good times, too,” Scherzer said.
The Mets will send another accomplished arm to the mound on Tuesday when they start Carlos Carrasco against the Brewers. Carrasco has had an excellent season for the Mets, going 15-6 with a 3.70 ERA.
With every game still being so important for the Mets, the ability to throw multiple top pitchers in a row could be what decides the race for the NL East title.
Looking to Brew Up One Final Playoff Push
For the Milwaukee Brewers, the race to win their division is all but over, as they have fallen 8½ games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. But the Brewers are still in the mix for a Wild Card, entering Tuesday just 2½ games back of the final spot.
However, the Brewers cannot afford to drop more games like they did against the Mets on Monday night if they want to make up the ground necessary to get into the playoffs.
Aaron Ashby is set to take the mound for the Brewers and looks to overcome what has been a terrible season individually. Ashby is 2-10 with an ERA of 4.58.
However, bettors will notice that in spite of Ashby’s poor record on the season that this game is lined as just about a pick ‘em, which means making MLB picks on this contest will not be as easy as simply looking at the pitching matchup.
Mets vs Brewers Head-to-Head
Those doing any MLB betting on this contest should be aware of the head-to-head numbers between the Mets and Brewers.
The Mets hold a 3-1 lead in the season series, taking two out of three in New York before winning Monday’s series opener in Milwaukee.
However, both teams have scored 16 runs across those four games, thanks in large part to a 10-0 win for the Brewers in New York.

Mets vs Brewers Prediction
When betting online, it is important to dig deeper than the surface level to find value from a sportsbook.
For example, when a team that just clinched a playoff spot and has a huge starting pitching advantage is not favored to win a game, something might not be quite right. The line for this contest is suggesting that some sort of postseason-clinching hangover may be coming for the Mets.
Meanwhile, the Brewers will come into this game with a sense of urgency as time is running out for them to make their move in the National League.
Expect the Brewers to come out and win this game and keep themselves within striking distance of the teams they are chasing in the Wild Card race.
