Division Rivals Clash
There is less than a month remaining to do some MLB betting on regular-season contests. The Miami Marlins host the New York Mets on Friday night to begin a pretty important series in the National League.
The New York Mets come into this game with a record of 87-51, and they have also won two straight MLB games. New York now has company at the top of the NL East standings, though, after being in control all season long.
This has been a disappointing season for the Miami Marlins, who are just 56-80. Miami was supposed to be a playoff contender, but things started to head in the wrong direction in a hurry.
The MLB lines for this game have the New York Mets as the moneyline betting favorites.
Marlins Need More Offense
The Miami Marlins have put together a solid starting rotation, but they just don’t have the offense to match. Miami has had to deal with injuries to some of its top bats.
Miami is hitting just .228 and has also hit just 119 home runs. Jesus Aguilar has been the one constant threat as he leads the team with 15 home runs and 49 RBIs.
Edward Cabrera will take the mound for the Marlins on Friday night and he is 4-2 with a 2.39 ERA. The young right hander will have to pitch well to slow down a Mets offense with some power.
Pitching Still Leading Mets
The New York Mets continue to beat teams with their pitching as they come into this game with a team ERA of 3.51. New York is going with David Peterson, who takes a 7-3 record and 3.32 ERA into the series opener.
Despite losing a big lead in the NL East race, New York has continued to play well. The Mets hold a half-game lead over the Atlanta Braves.
Francisco Lindor spoke about the playoff race, saying, “I said it from day one, it’s going to be a tight race and it should be a tight race.”
Pete Alonso has hit 32 home runs and he has also driven in a team-high 102 runs. Even though it has been the pitching that has carried this team, the Mets do have a lineup that can do some damage.
Mets vs Marlins Head-to-Head
These two NL East rivals have already met up 14 times during the 2022 season. The Mets have won 10 of the first 14 meetings and that falls in line with the overall records.

Mets vs Marlins Prediction
You usually want to look at the starting pitching matchup when making MLB picks. Peterson face the Marlins twice in June and allowed two runs and 10 hits in 12.1 innings. New York is still the much better overall team, and that offense is good enough to set the tone.
Miami just hasn’t been able to find enough consistent offense to win games, and that is going to plague the Marlins in this one.
