My prediction

The New York Mets have dropped seven straight while getting outscored 51-16. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies have won eight of nine and are hitting .272 at home with a .777 OPS, gaining traction in the MLB futures odds race. These NL East rivals continue their weekend series on Saturday after Philadelphia took the opener on Friday night, 10-2.

With righty Mick Abel flashing ace potential (2.21 ERA, 1.03 WHIP), I trust Philadelphia’s form more than a Mets team spiraling hard. From an MLB betting standpoint, it’s a good time to back the hot hand.

• Moneyline Pick: Phillies (-107)

Abel hasn’t given up more than two earned runs in any of his four starts, and he’s supported by a Phillies lineup that hits better at home (.272/.777) than the Mets do on the road (.241/.727). Plus, New York has dropped three straight by multiple runs and hadn’t hit a homer in four games before Friday night’s loss. It’s one of the stronger MLB bets on the board, especially with Philadelphia’s consistency at home.
